No Defence + No Chin = No Future

 

Precisely. Getting knocked down by McCline does not mean you have a weak chin, especially when the knockdown was so inconsequential to the whole pattern of the fight. McCline is actually one of the more underrated punchers of recent years. He was the first to seriously hurt and nearly stop Samuel Peter, back when Peter still had that insane chin. He also badly rocked Arreola who's known to be able to take a punch, and is renowned in sparring circles as a very hard hitter.

Against Mago he happened to catch him a little off balance and drop him on his arse. Big deal. Mago got up with no real ill effects, and went on to stalk and eventually stop him. And this somehow translates into Mago having no chin? What ludicrous hysterical nonsense. People need to get a grip of themselves.

Let's see him badly hurt and reeling around the ring from inconsequential punchers before we condemn him. Until then, his chin's just fine.

 

The guy comes to fight and throws bombs not sure what there is not to like about him? He is in exciting fights which is what the Division needs. He has fought better competition than Wilder and Price have that is for sure.

 

He's about on par with Price I think.

He took a perfectly placed hard right hand and went down early in a fight. He wasn't even warm ffs.

And it's not like the 280lb McCline didn't land another shot afterwards. He must've landed a similar R hand at least 5-6 more times that first round.:roflMago took them all very well.

What I DON'T like about it, is that it's been 4 months since the fight and still no return date set. He's had two bouts of inactivty longer than 6 mos, once being out almost 8 mos, and once for about 11.

Doesn't sound like too much, but he's already going on 32 and he's only boxed 25 rds in 16 fights.
Not saying he needs to double book himself, but if he's fighting at a more steady pace of 4 fights/yr, he can go head and train for 6 weeks, then take 6 weeks off and not get outta shape or worrying about stepping up.

Line these gatekeepers up and take em down.

I just don't want him to wait out the K2 retirement. He's definitely a live dog vs Wlad, and his defense is far better than he's getting credit for.:good

 

TBF, McCline is as solid top 100, and Byarm will likely become one of this generations best journeymen, but apart from them, Price has fought far better competition in Audley and Sexton and MacNuggett.

McCline is levels above Audley and i would rate Bayram, Pettaway, Power as a better trio than McNug, Sexton and 45 yr old Skelton.

Sexton's not a bad fighter actually. Hard snappy jab, good combinations, good sense of timing and distance, decent power, picks his shots well etc. He just suffers from a slightly average chin and a porous defence, perhaps some stamina problems too. The way Price destroyed him speaks more for Price than it does for Sexton; he'd already been in with some solid guys, and had previously only been stopped by Chisora, a TKO in the ninth, after giving him quite a good fight and stunning him earlier in the contest (in Chisora's own words).

I don't know enough about Byarm to say whether he's a better fighter than Sexton. If he is, it wasn't particularly evident in the Mago fight. He's obviously a solid fighter as well though.

I'd probably compare McCline at this point to Skelton, not Audley. They're both huge powerful men, McCline with the edge in power, Skelton the edge in toughness and akwardness. Either man is a solid name to have on your resume at this stage.

Audley was a terrible fight. I don't think you'll find too many people defending that as a win.

Getting put on the canvas by McCline is not all that bad. Didn't McCline also break Szpilka's jaw? Abdusalamov didn't seem to panic or even be particularly hurt by McCline that knockdown and Abdusalamov's recovery makes me think he's not a "front runner". He seems to have absolute confidence in his power. Thus far Abdusulamov has made his way up against better than average competition. He does need more fights soon, preferably televised fights. With Abdusalamov's Oxnard connection he might even get a date on a Spanish-language television network and Oxnard is a good fight for his style/talents. I like watching Abdusalamov box. It's kind of like watching a shark stalk its prey.

BTW, Abdusalamov wears the black cape because in Spanish "mago" means wizard or magician.

 

Not sure what fight you all were watching, but Mago was definitely rocked by that right hand, and was a bit wobbly and unfocused for the rest of the round. That said, one KD doesn't mean he has no chance to go anywhere. McCline is a big guy and can probably put the hurt of most HWs out there still.

Is there are more over used word among boxing fans than "exposed".
I doubt there are more than a few, if that.

For example if a pitcher in MLB or a QB in NHL or goalie in NHL, etc has an off game you seldom see fans talk about how they were "exposed". You just chalk it up to a bad outing.
But in boxing, I suppose b/c it's not a team game and you don't have as many chances, fans overreact :think
