Funerals of the great's

Hopefully Hascup will see this, he's been to a few.

 

Joe Frazier, Rocky Marciano, and Joe Louis all had huge, star studded funerals.

As did Emanuel Steward, who wasn't even a professional fighter.

 

When it comes, hopefully in many decades time, I doubt nothing will top Ali's...

 

i hope the decades part is right....but....it seems like the Parkinson is getting pretty bad. But regardless of whether he dies a second from now or 30 years from now, I am sure his funeral will be huge.

I went to Jack Dempsey's viewing at a funeral home in midtown Manhattan on June 2, 1983. I had to wait in line for a while until they let us all in. The casket was closed, and flag-draped. There was a modest display of floral arrangements - one in the shape of a boxing glove, but without the sender's name. Aside from his wife, Deanna, and daughters, I saw Jose Torres and Daily News sports cartoonist/columnist Bill Gallo. In the time I was there, I did not see as many celebrities as I might have expected, unless they came in later that evening. Most in attendance were people who worked at his restaurant, friends, and fans. As written by Bill Gallo in an article Goodinght, Champ, his funeral was private, attended only by family and special close friends, such as Judge John Sirica (of Watergate fame).

 

I would have to agree!...But what a sad day it will be...just saw footage of him from the College football weekend at Louisville...doesnt look so good

Camachos funeral gained lots of attention.

 

In the book "The fearless Harry Greb", there is a photo that touches me greatly.
It is a photo of Harry Greb lying in repose in his casket at his wake...So,so sad for me
to see hyper fighter so still only in death...The best description of Harry Greb was uttered by Ring Lardner, " Harry Greb in the ring resembled a man who had just burst
loose from his strait jacket "! Pittsburgh was in a state of mourning for it's greatest
fighting son...
