Could Louis have kept going after loss to Marciano?

He only proved that Louis would never regain the title.

Thank goodness that was enough for him to retire.

A year or so down the line, somebody else would have proved that he was finished at world level, and that would indeed have been a sorry sight!

 

Yeah Joe was done he didn't have it in him anymore, it's not exacly like he had extreme desire anymore for it

 

Look what happened there.

If an ex-champion doesn't believe he can regain the title, his will to win divebombs.

Some second rater would have beaten Louis and probably soon. I'm very glad that it didn't happen.

In the five rounds or so of the fight that I watched, Joe hardly used his right except for defensive purposes. In the book Kings of the Ring by Gavin Evans, it was stated that when Louis came back in 1950 he had a weakness on the right side of his body. I had not seen this allegation before, but the lack of use of his right is clearly evident in the film.
