Who had the better career Mike Spinks,Evander Holyfield,Roy Jones or Bernard Hopkins?

ditto on the Spinks and Hopkins comments. everyone having spinks the lowest and having hopkins above him need to do some 'history' revision.

Out of the four only RJJ makes my ATG. Holyfield was a tremendous Cruiser and (as already said) the best cruiser there has been - he was also the best at heavy for a while but was unfortunate to beat a shot Tyson rather than fight him in his prime. Had he beaten Tyson when Mike was top of his game then I'd be more inclined to consider him as closer to RJJ but Roy would probably still nick it for me.

I also have Hopkins a fair way ahead of Spinks in this list too.

Holyfield above Spinks because he beat Qawi, Bowe, Foreman just after the Cooney fight, Holmes just after the Mercer fight, Mercer, Moorer, Spinks beat Qawi, Mustafa Muhammad, Marvin Johnson, Holmes and Cooney.
Spinks above Jones because Jones beat Toney, Green Hopkins, Tarver and John Ruiz, not as good as Spinks or Holyfield’s resume, Jones above Hopkins because Hopkins beat a natural Welterweight Trinidad, starting Super Featherweight De La Hoya, Tarver, Pavlik and Pascal, not as good as Jones’ resume.
It’s unfair to say ‘Holyfield and Spinke were only 2 weight champions’ because they could only possibly win titles in 2 weight divisions.

 

In order of greatness, I'd probably go Jones, Holyfield, Spinks, and Hopkins. Hopkins is a clear fourth for me.

 

#1 Spinks,,,he'd clean Roy , Evander & Hopkins clock at 175 and ruled the light heavyweight division when it was arguably at it's peak.

Who Had the Best Career? Not who was the best or most talented fighter.

On paper, it is Spinks…only one defeat across a sparkling run. That the defeat was a disgraceful quit job, however, & that he never redeemed himself or even tried, makes things potentially complicated. Which is why I think Hopkins is debatably the answer. Career drug cheat Holyfield I will never take seriously in this equation, & Jones refused to even attempt becoming champion at LHW. It’s not as if he beat some murderer’s row while he wasn’t angling for the title at 175 either, Spinks far outweighs him there. So much for his claim, even if he’s the best pound-for-pound talent here. That was not the question.

Hopkins or Spinks for me are clearly the front-runners.
