I like Marquez a lot. Mayweather-Marquez is pretty far below the best defensive performances I've seen. It's no secret that Marquez has always struggled horribly against technical fighters who can fight going away or by shutting up shop; it was like that even when he was at his best. Ill advisedly crashing on weight to fight someone who was much bigger, excellent in his own right and a stylistic nightmare to boot? Brave, I suppose, but futile. The only surprising thing about that fight was that Marquez didn't get knocked out or stopped, which he would have done if Mayweather hadn't gone into the crab as soon as Marquez landed a meaningful punch. Granting you, he pulled off some nice manoevres, but the deck was so stacked in his favour that it hardly mattered.

There's a documentary in Spanish somewhere on youtube about Laguna that shows a couple of minutes from the Locche-Laguna fight. Both of them pull off some awesome stuff iirc. Locche generally gets tagged as being flat-footed, which he was at light welter. Here though, at lightweight, he looks far more trim, mobile and fleet of foot.

Lora making Zaragoza look inept is pretty out there. Food for thought when you see Morales toiling his nuts off 12 years later when Daniel was pushing 40.

To be honest, many of the examples of great overt defensive prowess come in fights where one fighter either has a distinct stylistic edge - Locche/Fuji, Locche/Cervantes, Benitez-Cervantes etc - or is just leagues above the other man - Mayweather/Gatti, Jones/most of his 175 comp etc. Good to watch; I mean, I never get tired of seeing Locche feint Fuji into knots with Chaplinesque buffoonery. But it somehow seems less impressive than watching Duran going in head first against Dejesus, Palomino and Leonard with them biting at every feint while he in return takes next to nothing. Or Rose in Japan constantly spinning and handling a dynamo like Harada when everything says that he should be a disadvantage in terms of the styles. Even the more basic, subtle or less ostentatious stuff from the likes of Moore, Billy Graham, Chucho, Ebihara etc.

Mayweather-Marquez as one of the best? Its not even one of Floyd's best. Marquez was a fatty. Corrales, Hatton, DLH, Mosley, to name a few.
