Juan Maneul Marquez vs Jose Luis Castillo @135

Castillo close UD, wish this fight would have been possible because I've thought about it before many times.

 

Castillo in his prime is an absolute beast and hard hitting LW with power with both hands. Underated boxing IQ and Durable. I think Castillo would be too much for JMM. To me I think JMM didn't peak his mental maturity until he was 30, like a bhop who progressed as he got older/wiser.

Castillo was almost JC Chavez but I don't think JC Chavez would have been stopped by Coralles nothing against Coralles. Just like I don think Chavez would beat Marquez, but I don't think Castillo would be able to beat Chavez. Chavez and Castillo have similar styles. Chavez counter and draw good opponents to him with smart ring movement, and Castillo was most straight ahead brawler.

Marquez eats up come foreward fighters.

Castillo is good/great. Marquez is an ATG

 

Sounds like you've just watch Castillo vs Corrales.

Castillo main attributes is his ring smarts and ability to adapt and adjust and usually grows stronger as the fight goes on. An all range fighter.

Corrales should've been DQed by the ref and ruled out by KO with the slow counts. He got caught off guard and got caught and waved off.

 

This is 60/40 fight in JMM's favour. If they have 3 bouts I'm sure Marquez will win at least 2 of them. Castillo would cause Marquez some problems and his size will be empowering especially in the early stages but a prime Marquez at 135 will be able to unsettle Jose, he's way too crafty. No knockout in this fight though.

JLC was likely exhausted bad too from spending most of the round trying to get rid of Diego.

I have to wonder too just how much Jose's height and reach would be over Juan :think

 

I don't think so I was a big Castillo fan I thought he would beat Mayweather because of his pressure style, and I have never saw him adjust really, I saw the ability to increase intensity as the fight went on. He would increase his intensity as his opponents withered from his pressure. You know your retort is the same one everyone on ESB uses if someone uses a memorable fight as an example.

 

50/50 fight for me.

JLC was great on the inside, as is JMM, but JLC has the edge on that department, it would be wise for JMM not to let the fight take place on the inside, and counter Castillo coming in, and fight him inside in spurts but Castillo's pressure was great and will give Marquez all sorts of problems...But with JMM's ring iq, he is well capable of making the adjustments needed to edge this....****, ill say a DRAW.

The real winner would be us the FANS. :happy

 

This really... as much as i thought of him i never saw this mythical ability to adjust at all.
He increased his intensity as a fight went on but thats it.

He was also a come forward pressure fighter that was not particularly fast nor did he have great defense.

All these things play right into the hands of someone with JMM style.
Castillo has about the worst style to be able to compete with someone like JMM.

JMM's kryptonite are defensive minded counter punchers, the style he looks amazing against are come forward pressure fighters.

Now which one of those is JLC?
I swear some people have no idea how styles mesh.

JLC would be hit by so many punches from so many angles he would look like a train wreck.

 

JMM has never fought a guy as imposing and relentless as well as bigger than him weight wise in Castillo. Would be a fun fight and see Castillo dropping him but may not be enough to get him the W. Can see JMM boxing him ala pacq 3 or Diaz 2 but with a tad different tactics. More reliant on footwork to rotate him opposed to trying to do it physically but man fireworks inside would be nail biting!

 

Voted DRAW because i just cant made up my mind.

 

Marquez was at his worst and not even close to his prime @ 135 the only other time he was in worse shape was against Floyd. 126 was prime Dinamita. Anyways, Castillo was more impressive @ 135. I always considered a prime Johnston a very underrated technician and had what it took to beat the likes of Floyd or give problems to any lightweight in history. Castillo had an iron chin, size, power, and tho Jmm feasts on come forward fighters, a prime Castillo @ 135 would be too rugged, too strong, and too busy for even Jmm,@ 135. Any other weight Jmm outclasses or even ko's Castillo, but 135 was Castillo's prime and domain. Castillo by SD in a classic.
