after jr's legitimate win over then unbeaten zbik for the wbc belt, chavez then went on to defend against legit mws rubio(ranked and on a 10-fight win streak and ko over leimeux) and lee(ranked and on a 13-fight win streak) thereafter. please, do not even mention chavez jr in the same sentence with canelo. its a disservice to chavez and boxing in general.

and my argument is not that canelo has to fight vanes or lara specifically or a madndatory, he just needs to fight a legit, top ten ranked 154 not coming off a loss, ko or muliple losses. the wbc sanctions title defenses and also has the authority to strip their champions

 

If Canelo was such a ppv attraction he wouldn't be fighting on an undercard. GBP knows that he ain't as big as they are hyping him up to be, but the more people buy into it eventually he will become the star they created. Similar to what they doing with adrian broner.

The truth is if these guys could sell **** loads of ppv's they would be doing it on their own card.

 

Showtimes a premium channel, but no one pays 70 bucks a month to view it, so you're splitting hairs.

The fact is, Canelo hasn't headlined his own PPV card, and if he's so popular and has such a following, then he should be able to sell **** to flies. The problem is, he needs to fight a live opponent campaigning in his weight class to make money (Cause Mexicans don't regularly support sham fights), and he/his handlers seem reluctant to do so.

Chavez was facing those top fighters though whilst having an actual mandatory he was avoiding. Alvarez by contrast took on his mandatory in Rhodes immediately after getting the belt and hasn't had one since that time. The public pressure and backlash on Chavez was boiling over far more than it is about Alvarez right now as well.

mosely(coming off two wide UD losses at 147), cintron(coming off a fight were he literally jumped out of a ring and a wide UD loss to molina) and lopez(a fighter who had never fought befoer at 154 and had less than three months to recover from his war at 147, which wasalso his first fight at ww, who also had a less than 50 percent ko ration at jww) are nowhere near as comparable to jrs wins.

comparing jr's title defenses to that of canelos is purely ignorant.

canelos been "sparring" in his last four fights of which cintron was his least favored fight...where kermit was a whopping +800.

rubio went off at +180(after chavez' recent dui was made public) and lee went off at +250.

 

Mayweather was getting paid without Canelo for years. He don't need Canelo to make money. Broner or Rios could fill that card out right nice and everybody can still get paid. Leo Santacruz would also add fire to the mix. **** Canelo. Mayweather has been called a lot of things but he has never been called a fool because that **** don't fit. He is not gonna stack the deck against himself.That's a fools move. If Canelo got faith in his skills, then all he have to do is drop down to 147 and issue the challenge.
