Canelo is just a prospect, no way he is ready for Mayweather.

I don't get why posters say **** like this. You are aware Gurerro is campaigning at WW right?

He's also proven himself vs. highly ranked opponents, which is something canleo is often, and rightly so, criticized for.

Floyd's level of competition the last 2 years is not better than Canelo's.

yeah for 2 fights. 1 fight which he was a 3-1 favorite to show you how shitty that guy was. and berto who he handed his 2nd loss in 3 fights.

you are aware that mayweather is campaigning at at junior middleweight? the same weight canelo is?

That doesn't matter, Ghost took on two legit WW's and won. Those circumstances you post here, don't magically make Ghost weigh 130 or 135 all of a sudden because you don't like who he beat.

And yes, i am aware of Mayweather's last fight being at jrMW. But if he can make 147 with ease, then that's not an issue. Just as if Martinez can make 154, then he's a viable option as well for Floyd. Canelo has done **** all as a pro so far. He needs to build himself before a fight like Mayweather.

    WHAT??? hahahaaaaahahahaaa
What's Canelo's best win in the last 2 years? Rhodes? A 3 year winless Mosley?
Yea right. He's fighting a bunch of welters and l.w. and buying into his own hype after smashing guys who shouldnt be in the ring with him because of size or rankings and combinations of both. Even though I think Canelo should be a prospect and not a champ, since hes the champ and defending his belt it should be against guys who belong fighting for the belt in the first place, and he's yet in these 2 years to fight a guy in the rankings worthy of challenging for his title

RG is an absolute **** fight. he has done nothing for a mayweather fight. unless you think beating berto who lost to ortiz the guy mayweather just beat.... besides, no one earns title fights anymore anyway that **** went out the window years ago.

so by your definition of deserving a fight you just completely eliminated Canelo from a shot because he hasnt even beat anyone worth mentioning to show any of us fans he can beat floyd

It's also about who's available. I was never sold on Berto being an elite fighter, but he's been a top 5 WW for years now. It's a good win for Ghost. And Floyd's win over Ortiz meant nothing based on how it happened. If Floyd fights at 154, then Martinez is the only fight that makes sense right now. If Floyd goes back to 147, then who else is there? JMM again? He won't fight PAc, that's been made obvious.

I actually am a big fan of Canelo, but like I said, he's done **** all as a pro. GBP is doing him no favors with the way he's being brought up. They could actually be stunting his growth as a fighter with how he's been matched. I guess he's making good money, but why should you or I give a **** about how much these guy make, or should make. If a spent penny Cotto can give Floyd a good scrap, I see no reason why Gurrero can't. He'll give it his all, and won't fold like Ortiz did.

Since you're saying he is a prospect, the kid is a draw there is a huge big money payday for Floyd shouldnt be no problem making the fight happen

Canelo is hyped fighter right now and that's because of Golden Boy. He's been match very carefully the way Arum does with his fighters. Marketing them and give them exposure to public to see. But it comes a times when that fighter needs to face an opponent that can test him to see what he got. Canelo want's to fight Mayweather right off the back and I can't blame since he would be getting a nice pay day and plus he gets to see if he knock Mayweather off the Pedestal. I don't mind seeing that fight but I rather see Canelo fight Austin Trout and see what Canelo is all about. If he pass with flying colors then I like to see him take on Mayweather but if he doesn't then we can say he wasn't ready for the big leagues. But will Golden Boy risk putting Canelo with Trout? I think not for obvious reasons !

    actually, he's no longer a prospect, he's a champion.
with that said, the kid still gets schooled by Mayweather
