Am I the only one who wishes Margarito wouldn't have taken the Pacquiao fight?

    Reality:

    1) Nobody gets suspended for 1 year because their wraps were sweaty and used.

    2) Nobody gets BANNED FROM THE SPORT FOR LIFE because he simply used the wrong "gauze..."

You may now proceed with your nationalistic bull**** and brokenhearted pride....

Simple answer, boxing commissions are not same as criminal justice, where you have to prove your case. It was spun into a huge libel campaign, he was railroaded. What legal measures can he take? The commission wasn't interested in acting fair at all, otherwise they'd of payed attention to the lab tests. In the court system, you have to PROVE your case, everyone knew there was NO case. Nazzim Richardson flat out lied, there was no brick in Margo's gloves, just a bundle of gauze, this has been proven with the pictures. They would allow NO independent examination of the wraps, and the LAB TESTS thoroughly debunked the "plaster of paris in the wraps" idea. Margarito legally was proven innocent, the commission wasn't going to listen, they jumped to conclusions. If they really thought he was trying to cheat, they'd of went after him like no tomorrow. My question to you now is, why weren't they taking legal action against him if they think he was cheating??

Reality, both your points have been answered in this thread and shot down.

Reality, I'm not a Mexican, so this is not "nationalistic bull****," I'm a Caucasian living in America. I'm not a Margarito fan boy, I defend the truth, and would do the same no matter who it was if this happened to them.

    Cyrax:

Former welterweight Luis Resto has acknowledged that the beating he gave the late Billy Collins Jr. in 1983 -- in which, over 10 rounds, he pounded Collins with tampered gloves that each had two inches of padding removed -- was even worse than previously believed.

The admission, which Resto made to Collins' widow last year during the filming of a documentary about the scandal, has led to a motion to re-open a civil suit against the State of New York over its failure to prevent the beating.

Resto, at a news conference on Thursday in New York, acknowledged that the tape used to wrap his hands in that fight had been soaked in plaster of Paris, giving him a pair of hardened casts underneath his unpadded gloves.

Collins suffered from blurred vision and depression after the June 16, 1983 fight. He died in a car accident about nine months later.

    http://www.secondsout.com/columns/thomas-hauser/antonio-margarito-and-the-handwrap-issue

This is a pretty thorough rundown on the whole thing. Cyrax and Bazooka's narratives aside, Thomas Hauser thinks it's inconclusive whether Margarito knew. My own thought is he probably did know, but it's not so clear to me that I think he should have been banned for life.

On the other hand, his flippancy toward the issue in the aftermath angered me, so to the point I didn't mind seeing him take a beating versus Pacquaio.

Thats not the be all and end all, Mosley "Unknowingly" took steroids from Conte and Balco where was he punished after admitting he took steroids?
Lets be real Nevada was on to him, they requested an additional sample and Mosley refused to knowing he had been juicing, and after months and months of lying it finally came out he finally caved and admitted to it.

Mother ****er is a known steroid cheat likely has been juicing his entire career either way Not a single suspension was handed down to him nor a fine as was the case with so many other fighters who did test positive.....

To be totally honest from a boxing point of view I didn't want it to happen at the time. Like everyone else I saw it as a complete mismatch that gifted Manny a joke belt (was it ever fair to call him the best lmw in the world?)

Personally though I thought it was great to see a former cheat in there with a top 2 p4p guy on a red hot streak. It was obvious he was gonna beat him up and that was something I looked forward to seeing.

Check out the link I posted above. Capetillo has no plausible excuse for his actions, and thus he deserved the harshest possible punishment. Margarito was held strictly liable, appropriate for a case such as this. I didn't have any problem with him getting recommissioned, although I do think he knew what was up. Nothing more than circumstantial evidence exists to support that, though.

Shouldn't he have been furious with his trainer for destroying his legacy, as well as taking heaps of money out of his pocket?
