The ring belt is a load of crap anyway, look at flyweight. Igarashi is the champ because he beat Jaro who beat Wonjongkam. so he's the lineal champion but he's not the best in the division, Viloria is
chris john has no fan base? yeah right hes prolly the man where he is at. thats why he dont gotta come here n fight. hes fightin weak comp n gettin paid. come to america for a big fight vs a good opponent he mite not get paid that much more then if he takes easy tuneups in his backyard.
Chris John has isolated himself and is a regional affair by his own volition. It's not hard to justify his being seemingly forgotten for consideration on the world (or at least American) stage. But this is also true. Who really cares about Ring Magazine anymore?
Playing devils advocate here but the The Ring has always stipulated that number 1 and 2have to fight to be champion, or number 1 and 3. Well they do have Salido as number one (and many people agree) and Garcia as number 3 (although I would have him at 4 or 5) so it is within their rules. As far as the Broner dilema they do have him at number 1 (cuz he beat their previous number 1) so either of the two other fighters would have to face him to get a Ring Championship. It sucks but it is all within their own rules. The number 1 has to fight and whom he fights can be either number 2 or 3.
Simple. Chris John is hiding out in Indonesia and his team has made it clear he's not going to fight Salido or Garcia, while both Burns and Vazquez say they want Broner after they win. That way it gets determined in the ring, how it should be. Also, a #1 vs #3 matchup (which was okay under the old rules) gives the title a lot more credibility than a #2 vs #4. I can understand people complaining that Broner shouldn't be ranked #1 (I personally have both Burns and Vazquez ahead of him), but what they're doing here actually makes sense.
Uh, that's the nature of the lineal title. Quite often the best doesn't actually hold the belt. Luis Santana with 20 something losses became lineal champ because of a DQ. Zsolt Erdei became lineal because the championship got hijacked by Universum for almost 20 years. That's the one benefit of having multiple belts.
I wish those were the rules too, but if they were, Wlad couldn't be the titlist either. I HATE their rule change, but this type of 1 vs 3 situation makes sense to me at least. Salido has no way to force John to fight him, and John is flat out ducking the top fighters these days. It's not as if he's beaten anyone particularly prominent in aboiut 5 years either.
The Ring is American. They will do this if they think the American (or sometimes MExican) fighter can win the belt. They did it with Calzaghe-Lacy although Kessler was number 2 at the time. But they really thought Lacy would win so they made it for the Ring title to give Lacy leverage against Kessler in the next fight. Don't expect the Ring to be anything but heavily US biased.
Regarding the CW lineage- I can look at Hernandez as champ, because I know there was a lot of controversy in removing Huck from the ratings when he was number 1 I think that it could be argued that he should've been number 3. Reason- before Cunningham- Hernandez 1, the rankings was Cunningham 1, Huck 2. When Hernandez defeated Cunningham the rankings was 1. Huck 2. YPH 3. Cunningham. However my ratings would've been 1. YPH 2. Cunningham 3. Huck- being that Cunningham had already KO'd Huck and a couple of Huck's wins was controversial (to say the least).
