Miguel Vasquez: what's the deal?!

it seems the other way for me. Vasquez being massively under rated. I have this as 50-50

 

I like Vasquez: he circles constantly, throws punches from unexpected positions, knows how to spoil and counters quite well. Not desperately quick or heavy handed mind.

I can't decide on the outcome. I can see Vasquez winning by a couple of rounds, but I could also see Burns figuring him out early and utterly dominating.

 

Well, most recently he dominated unbeaten hype job KO artist Gesta like mad but the Filipino barely put up any effort.

Try his schooling of any of the following come-forward B- graders: Lenny Zappa, Ji Hoon Kim, Ammeth Diaz. :good

They'll give you a sound idea of what he's about. (without making you want to kick your screen in, like Gesta did. Unlike him those guys actually tried, and simply failed because Vasquez was too much to sort out for them)

Just watched the Vasquez vs Kim fight. A lot of holding and spoiling from Vasquez. If he gets up close to Ricky I think Ricky will hurt him with uppercuts the way he done with Martinez.

The issue for Vazquez is that, if he starts spoiling and holding, he will get punished in a British ring against a British fighter. Either the referee will take points off, or the judges will dismiss any good work he does.

I suspect we'll see Ricky relying on his jab and footwork a lot more than usual. There's a reason GBP didn't want any of Vazquez - he'd make a fool of Broner.

 

Tougher than Broner waaaaaah thats a ****ing numpty response if i ever seen one, he will pitter patter circle a lot tally up some points and lose a close fight by a wide margin NEXT

 

I think this will be awkward for Ricky. Ricky has good feet, but Vasquez is very hard to pin down. It's going to be a difficult puzzle for him, not sure he's faced one like this. Ricky isn't a big puncher either so I don't think you'll see Vasquez quite so cautious, he may throw more in combination this time and that's a dangerous possibility because his patience can be his biggest weakness as well as a virtue.

Ricky may have to resort to fighting very aggressive in this one.

Rocky is a good super featherweight, but never in his life (not when he met Burns, nor before or since) has he been the #1 in that division.

Vasquez isn't elite p4p material or anything, but he's a few levels squarely above Rocky (ergo, probably, therefore Ricky as well). He'd been the #1 at lightweight for a while prior to Broner moving up. As it stands, as of now he probably still is given that Broner's resume at 135 is still shallow with only the single conquest. h2h - given fair scoring where ineffective aggression isn't rewarded over true generalship - he likely cleans out most of his division except Broner. There are at least half a dozen guys who'd comfortably beat Martinez. Hell, a passing fair prospect in Beltran - who'd already lost at Mexican domestic level - nearly did!

I don't even particularly like Vasquez, or enjoy watching his style. In fact, I root against him solely because his manager is Tony Margarito. I'd much rather watch Rocky any day of the week. Fact stands, Vasquez >>>>> Martinez.

 

Agreed. I think Vazquez style is a good match for Burns, but I think it's a bad style for getting the rounds from the judges. I can see the fans booing him if he is negative, and I think the judges will dislike it, all of which could lead to a dubious scorecard at the end even if he has 'won' the majority of the rounds.

Vazquez needs to be dominant and win every round, rather than try not to lose it. Certain styles make it harder to win fights, especially abroad, and Vazquez has one of those styles.
