What do you guys think of the dq call? Was it legitimate enough to warrant the ending of a fight between these two men? Kirk was winning the fight by my card at the time of the stoppage and I'm just wondering how legit a victory you consider this to be.
ive seen it and i hate when an accidental punch strays low and doesnt do much and ends a fight i guess "rules is rules" that said Ruiz who gets zero credit rocked Johnson with that right hand and was coming on I think the weirdest DQ ive seen was Gerald Nobles vs Valuev I didng understand why he was DQ'd
I wish they didnt DQ him Ruiz was on his way to knocking out Johnson but the DQ was in order too many low shots
It wasn't even CLOSE to legitimate, just like most of Ruiz's "victories" against top tier opposition. As he had against Jimmy Thunder and Evander Holyfield in their second fight, Ruiz shamelessly overacted when hit with borderline shots to get point deductions - and in this fight, a thoroughly bogus DQ. That't what connections to Don King will get you - illegitimate "victory" after illegitimate "victory." Without King, Ruiz would have been just another high-grade clubfighter.
Ruiz threw the first low blow, threw the only intentional headbut as well, plus after rocking Johnson he grappled him and threw him down like it was a MMA fight....lost no pts for any of this, plus he fought dirty almost every round. Ruiz should have been DQ'd well before Jonson....but Ruiz was never DQ'd in the many fights he fought openly dirty. Kirk Johnson was robbed in that fight.
That was a vintage Ruiz fight....He was gonna win ugly one way or the other. I don't really remember much about the DQ, other than not really being surprised by it.
I started watching it again but it was really **** so I skipped to the 7th. I think the low blows in 7&10 were legit low blows. Maybe borderline but because of the angle of the punch they strayed low. Ruiz was not gonna stop Kirk though, and he had no point taken off for hitting him behind the head. I think without Ruiz's play acting early doors Cortez wouldn't have been as inclined to stop it. Quite a **** fight but Kirk only really has himself to blame. He got a final warning clearly in round 7 and then strayed low again.
