Kelly Pavlik announced his retirement in a surprise move yesterday, saying motivation and health concerns lead him to this decision he's been thinking about lately.

He gave us some great fights, especially the first Taylor match for the World Middleweight Championship, also the exciting matches vs. Zuniga, Maravilla and Miranda while was never afraid to take on a challenge even if that meant moving up in weight. He was also able to put more than 10.000 asses into seats, a rare support in US boxing these days and delivered them some spectacular knockouts.

All I can say is respect, Kelly, and thx for the memories!

Good champion and brought plenty of support to the sport.

    Thanks Pavlik.

Hasn't been relevant for years. To me he will always be the guy who was supposed to beat Calzaghe but turned out to be nothing special at all. And when he does make the inevitable comeback it will look something like Hatton's.

Shame, he's still quite young...I'd for him to regret this decision and make a comeback in a few years' time and then really get busted up. Still, if he thinks it best...Martinez did knock lumps out of him.

Had a really nice run from 2007-2010 and secured the middleweight championship. That can't be taken away from him. Glad he's getting out now that the hunger has left him instead of sticking around half-assing it.

Pavlik is one of those very few guys who had the glory to hold the crown of the middleweight champion of the World.

He was bad man when he beat Taylor. I remember those times when our middleweight hope Amin Asikainen was fighting. Finnish boxing experts even acknowledged that only way they could let Asikainen to step in the ring with Pavlik if Asikainen were allowed to bring a gun there... That is how frightening champion Kelly Pavlik was seen here...

Pavlik was very good. As big a right hand as I can remember in the MW division. Iron chin. Just had some demons in the closet. This was a guy nobody wanted to fight, though.

Didn't 43 year old Hopkins want to fight him?

    Good champion though.
    He will be missed.

Two weight classes higher. And Hopkins never really hurt him.
