Where does Olivares rank? Are Rose, Burruni and Castillo HOFers? Greb is my clear no.1 anyway. And yes, Sam looks glorious.
Olivares would come in around #30-40 on my list. To put it into perspective, so would Hagler. There are just so many great fighters and it's no coincidence that many of them are oldies, owing to the general rule that the best fought more often, and fought each other more often. Rose, Burruni and Castillo aren't in there although I thought they might be. But then neither is Joyce or De Jesus. Marshall and Kansas weren't in it until recently. Time will usually sort these things out as attention is drawn to underrated boxers of the past.
Stellar work, and I'd probably have Hagler and Olivares quite close together on an ATG list anyway (Hagler 35-40 and Olivares 41-50 I imagine) and I'd have fought Burruni and Rose would've been in there at least. Did Olivares beat any HOFers in his whole career? Is Chacon in there? What was the best you could find for Arguello you think? Undefeated in title bouts from Olivares to Pryor, but had a few non-title losses.
Amazing work and this is exactly how I rate fighters. I judge a prime period for them and only hold losses against then suffered in that period.
Thankfully, yes, Chacon's in there. Remember, Olivares also beat Kid Gavilan who's also in But nobody else that I can see. No shame in that - a string of very good opponents can be convincing also. As you can see, Pep didn't beat a great deal of top enders, but had about sixty other wins over the course of his career against fighters who were at one time or another part of The RING's top ten ratings, some of them genuine lightweights. Thanks Lufcrazy.
Mate, my keyboard is so ****ed. Imagine having to press g twenty five times before it shows up. Same for h, ' and backspace So excuse me if I post a little slow. For some reason I always thought Mancini (unjustifiably) and Ramirez were in there. Nope. I had to check Escalera. Olivares and Pryor, of course. But we both know Arguello's record was quality.
Hey, it wasn't a criticism of you, more that I'd snuck it in and didn't know whether you'd noticed So his only HOF wins in his best run are Olivares, Escalera and Chacon?
Greb's record is just unbelievable. Probably even better than Langford's and Armstrong's. I still believe Ezzard Charles's 3-0 over Archie Moore may be the best win streak over any single opponent, ever. It's rare enough for two arguable top10 fighters to square off, but for one of them to win all three occasions? Duran/Leonard, Ali/Frazier - they all split the wins. Not Charles when he fought Moore.
You're right! I think it was me thinking he was in because he should be I will amend, apologies atsch Even so, doesn't diminish his standing. Jack Blackburn and Dave Holly are not in there either. Spotted another mistake I made; Langford beat Dixie Kid twice. A work in progress :yep
Quoting this for Pontius if he didn't read it already. I ****ed up on Jeff Clark (not in the IBHOF as I thought, but still, should be!) but you could add these to past prime exploits.
