Search results Monday January 20, 2013, 10.00 european time. Google search - last 24 hours. The timeline choosen to measure the buzz approximately 24 hours after the event.

    Orlando Salido - 10,200 hits
    Mickey Garcia - 7,240 hits
    Gennady Golovkin - 9,370 hits
    Gabriel Rosado - 8,320 hits
Juan Carlos Burgos - 13,000 hits
    Rocky Martinez - 6,940 hits
    Sergei Kovalev - 2,080 hits
    Gabriel Campillo - 2,260 hits

Google search is rather dynamic so if you try these searches at another date you are sure to get different results.

What these numbers prove is that "boxings best kept secret" is not very secret anymore. Golovkin is, based on the number of Google hits, just as known and just as visible as the other fighters on the card. He was the third most googled the last 24 hours. He is out of the bag and need to produce results like any other top level fighter.

Positives: Lou DiBella's statement "Who would give a flying ****, and why are you even asking? Who knows Gennady Golovkin other than you, me and a few other people? (Sep 2012)"
This is simply not true anymore. Golovkin is now known by, in addition to boxingheads, a wide boxing audience both in the US and internationally. His recent fights have been aired both on German and Russian TV, in addition to HBO.

Negatives: No more excuses. Golovkin has been sold as a KO machine, but if you put him in a ring with a guy who will step sideways the second he is jabbed the match will not really be that exciting. Not that it is his fault. Remember Mayweather-Mosley and Pacquiao-Mosley? The matches were not entertaining and that was in both cases the fault of Mosley that simply did not show up to win.

Why are Google search results a relevant metric for how well-known a fighter is, especially since the parameters you're using will simply include articles which recap every fight on that card as a hit for all of the names you're using (save Campillo and Kovalev)? Why wouldn't, say, HBO ratings be a more relevant number to use here, and how does Golovkin's fight against Proksa stack up in comparison to other fights on the network in 2012?

    speaking to the converted.

You can't avoid Golovkin with the excuse of he's not well known. Then fight Martin Murray.

The only rivalry more intense and more likely to sell than Argentina-England is Argentina-Kazakhstan.

Golovkin has had more mainstream press then even Martinez or Chavez. When have they ever had articles about them in non-boxing press like USA today or CNN? Golovkin is more well known than any MW aside from Martinez and Chavez and truth is he probably isn't lesser known by much.

Martinez using that when he fought Dzinziruk, Barker and now Murray is just pitiful. Right now with his HBO backing Golovkin brings more of a name, money and belts to the table than any MW aside from Chavez. Geale, Quillin, Sturm, or even Martinez using the "he isn't known enough" excuse isn't valid, period.

Both Chavez and Martinez have had far more articles in USA Today than Golovkin, and promos for their fight against each other appeared on CNN thanks to their deal with HBO.
Of course Martinez wouldn't have needed to use that excuse when taking on Dzinziruk (by force) or Barker since Golovkin couldn't fight in the States.
I guarantee Geale makes more against Mundine than he would have against Golovkin for this date. He'd probably make more against Sturm again as well.

It wouldn't take much more for Golovkin to be more well known than Sergio, who can thank Chavez Jr for fighting him, otherwise he'd be relatively unknown by the mainstream public.
