Why did Arguello quit in the 2nd fight against Pryor? Is it a lack of heart?

Come on man!
You want to accuse Arguello of lacking heart?
He was old and had a career that would eat up most P4P'rs nowadays and spit them out.He knew that fifteen rounds against a whirlwind who was at his optimum weight was not going to turn out well when he was shot and way north of his own prime and optimum weight.
Do you know the circumstances behind his final days and eventual death?
You can't go around saying a man like that lacked heart.
Show me you can do better than this.This is the kind of **** I talked to you about.

You ever been tested in the manner in which a fighter is? You have zero idea what it takes to be a boxer... even a club level fighter. I guarantee you couldn't make it through one training camp. In fact I would bet 1000 dollars against a penny that you could not make it through the conditioning program I use with fighters. Lack of heart.... you don't know what the word heart means!

 

You attacked the messenger, but you didn't really attack his argument.

Fact is Arguello did quit and he admitted to it. He simply didn't have the heart to continue.

There is nothing wrong with that and it happens to every athlete at a high level, they loose the heart/want/ability to function at the high level they used to and they call it quits.

 

I want to vomit that you had the audacity to mention Froch`s name in the same sentence with Arguello... He foughts wars with true ring greats displaying TONS of heart... One fight in which he was fighting over his optimum weight, old, and clearly beaten. Does not a weak heart make ... Lets see Frcoh or Chavez jr. fight 3 classes over the true fight wieght and then you can talk ...

 

The real damage was done in the first fight already.

 

Arguello was over his prime and he was fighting way over his original weight. He was in with a doped up fighter who was stronger, naturally heavier and faster. Arguello had heart but he was hurt and out gunned.

 

The statement was ridiculous in every sense of the word. A fighters merit could scarcely be judged on the basis of one fight on the very tail end of his career. Especially after enduring the punishment he took in the fight. Lack of heart? I have seen many a "tough guy" literally chased out of the ring just by being walked down. It's tiresome coming to these forums as a trainer and a fan, and have to listen to all these armchair fighters/tough guys ridicule and judge the people that out there lives on the line for our entertainment, and to make a living.
So he quit... so what! There are 10 guys in my gym that could run any one of you tough guys out of the ring without throwing a punch. You people are something else.

 

Vitali quit in a fight he was winning against an undersized light punching fighter that came to heavyweight from 160-168. Ortiz has a histroy of erratic and suspect behavior. He also quit against a smaller lighter punching fighter. That's how it makes sense.

 

You are appealing to emotion, not responding to the point made.

No one said Arguello's career was worthless, that he wasn't a ATG fighter, that for his whole career he never had heart, and etc.

What was actually said was in THAT INSTANCE, he quit, he bailed out, his heart said no, he said no more.

The fact is that he did quit in the second fight and he admitted it.

Never boxing, never being a championship level boxer, and everything else is irrelevant to analyzing that event, that you don't want to talk about the point raised, but would prefer to simply attack the messenger shows maybe you don't want to look at the actual point being made.

 

nothing wrpng with quitting...its your health.

in other sports,they quit all the time.

In boxing its ridiculed..

I think boxing is the only sport that you should get a pass for quitting

 

he was done. but it was odd. pryor was a known coke head and always seemed on some sort of stimulant during a fight.
