Big fights which are worthy of being on PPV need to have a good undercard. The main event will be what sells the fight to people but what matters is what the fans think after the card. They're either going to think "that was a great night of boxing, I can't wait to see some again" or they're going to think "I've been ripped off". With one good fight on the card - like the aforementioned Hatton/Maussa PPV - you run the risk of fans feeling unhappy that they were ripped off. Similarly, Haye/Harrison was a terrible main event but if there had been a great undercard, many fans would still have been happy at the end of the night. For Froch/Kessler II, I want to see some big names on the undercard. Both promoters should put forward one of their star attractions in 'decent' fights, so maybe we could get a Froch/Kessler main event being supported by Bellew, Frampton or Brook, and Abraham, Povetkin or Hernandez. On top of that, a couple of good undercard bouts, such as Crolla vs. Buckland or something like that. For the fans in the arena, and maybe to show if you get a good knockout, Yafai, Cardle, Stalker etc., in keep busy fights.
**** sake, any big ppv fight everyone piles round someones gaff and all put a daft quid in each or summat....thats how we do it.....billy no mates types cant do that i suppose. I would say a tenner is better priced. Sorry for typing **** ups, spilt vimto on wireless keyboard and now using on screen keyboard! nightmare man.
You're confused - I answered your question by saying I think there's nothing that will justify PPV for me. Even Khan, with a huge name and genuine celebrity, couldn't sell PPV. How will Froch? You were the one who called me a twat because I won't be your ******. So you haven't provided an example at all. Good show.
dftaylor and USA Rob are like a bitter old couple that have lived together for years, no longer shag, hate each other's guts but can't live without each other. Eddie Hearn completes the love triangle :deal
It already benefits from being extremely disingenuous when selling fights as being for "the world championship." Quality fight that Froch-Kessler is it shouldn't have a world title tag attached to help sell it. Both were soundly beaten by Andre Ward.
You need a solution if you want to end it though, so if you do want to end PPV, alternative revenue kind of is your problem, or its not going to end now is it.
We need to stop paying fighters more than they are worth. If Hearn can't mount the fight in the UK and cover costs, then he's working a stupid model. Why do I need a solution? I don't work in the industry.
Fair point DFT....Similar to paying footballers too much, the knock on effect is in the fans pocket. Gotta draw a line somewhere.
I'd stop PPVs altogether. Charging fans £15 to see a fight that might last one round is ridiculous. Folks can't afford it. Scrap the PPV concept and have them on standard sky programming and stop ripping people off.
