His only wish nowadays is to live long enough to see his 26th birthday. The unbeaten prospect is literally fighting for his life these days. Henry was hospitalized for gall stones in mid-November, the week of his scheduled Shobox debut against Juan Ubaldo Cabrera. More than two months later, Henry remains hospitalized with what has grown into Stage Four Pancreatic Cancer. A super welterweight who regularly walks around at 175 lb. or so, Henry has shrunk down to a fragile 130 lb. as he awaits his next round of chemotherapy. Friends surrounding the unbeaten fighter admit that its not looking good for him right now, but hes still fighting. One day at a time as he eyes February 8, when he turns just 26 years old. Henry hopes to make it to that point, but its far from the only goal has he set for 2013. Im coming back by the end of the year, insists Henry (12-0-1, 9KO), whose last fight was a ten-round shutout over Tyrone Selders last June. The Chicago-born fighter who now calls Houston home didnt quite take to his first attempt at chemotherapy, but is scheduled for a second treatment on Monday. The desire to comeback appears to be a long shot, though in his mind is simply a part of his eventual journey. As long as he has moral and spiritual support, he remains confident that he can handle the rest. Keep praying for me. I promise, you will see me again in the ring.
Thats so crazy :-( Cancer is such a horrible ****ing thing..... Heres to hoping Omar can make a comeback. Just insane to think of how strong he was such a short while ago, and now this? To such a young, strong guy. ****ing cancer :-(
I met Omar two years ago in LV and he is a good kid. I hope he recovers but stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer sounds horrible. My Dad had stage 3 PC and died withing 8 Months at age 39.
Apparently its in very advanced stages, not looking good at all. Hes in my thoughts and prayers, I hope he can live through this like Danny Jacobs did, but he is in severe condition... keep fighting Omar.
That's horrible. Sorry for Omar and his family, they'll be in my thoughts and prayers...pancreatic cancer is about the worst you can get.
At first I didn't give a **** because I remembered this is the guy that was shouting and standing up in the crowd of fights and I assumed he'd just recover like Jacobs but now I'm hearin about it i hope he pulls through if I was religious I'd pray for the guy, he's too young and had too much of a future to go out like this, this **** makes me think how lucky u are when your healthy
It's tough to even comprehend this kind of stuff. He's in the prime of his life doing what he loves to do and something like this comes along. Just heartbreaking. **** cancer. My thoughts are with you, Omar.
