Don't forget that Lewis had a really badly broken nose, so that fight should have been stopped and given to Vitali. I think Salido would agree, but unlike Salido, Vitali was beating Lewis on the cards, Lewis was ready to be knocked out. Lewis retired rather than face Vitali again, he turned down his biggest payday. Vitali staggered Lewis, Lewis punches never hurt Vitali, but the lacing, rubbing of his hair, etc., helped Lewis. Vitali would still fight Lewis right now, but watch Lewis run.................

Vitali and Vlad would beat any fighter living today, in any weight division, including Ward and Mayweather. Hey, if Ward or Mayweather is the best fighter in the world, then they should back it up by fighting Vitali or Vlad. Klitschkos beat "all" fighters period. You can't say that about anyone else.

It has relevance because it shows that he could beat anyone that ever got in the ring with him. There are no questions hanging over his head the way there are with other heavyweight greats, no one you can say that always had his number.

 

True but nobody really thought mediocre fighters like McCall or Rahman were better than him. Everybody knew these were fluke losses. Just like nobody in their right mind still thinks Purrity or Sanders were consistently better than Wlad. Or Thompson better than Haye.

Also: What if McCall had overdosed on drugs after his win vs. Lewis. A hypothetical event that would be entirely outside of Lewis' realm of influence. What would Lewis have done then? He'd have been the same great boxer, just he wouldn't have had that pathetic 2nd fight vs. McCall. Makes no difference at all to his legacy IMO.
