In my experience as a long time observer of the sport, there has never been anyone as amazing as Roy. I am aware that these wrinkled old farts and arrogant know nothing groupies from IBRO and Cyberboxingzone like to downplay his brilliance because they naturally hold a grudge against anyone they think was better than the fighters from their era. Deep down these punks KNOW Roy would have toyed with the Billie Conns of the world. With the exception of Robinson and Pep, there was really nothing out there that they had.
No....his talent may be. But while he proved alot in the ring, he didn't prove enough to make this statement. Or even close really.
#27 for me, and he's my 2nd favorite fighter of all time. 1. Ray Robinson 2. Harry Greb 3. Henry Armstrong 4. Sam Langford 5. Muhammad Ali 6. Ezzard Charles 7. Roberto Duran 8. Mickey Walker 9. Barbados Joe Walcott 10. Barney Ross 11. Ray Leonard 12. Pernell Whitaker 13. Willie Pep 14. Benny Leonard 15. Joe Louis 16. Archie Moore 17. Bob Fitzsimmons 18. Joe Gans 19. Tony Canzoneri 20. Carlos Monzon 21. Gene Tunney 22. Marvin Hagler 23. Alexis Arguello 24. Carlos Ortiz 25. Emile Griffith 26. Kid Gavilan 27. Roy Jones Jr.
Roy has a damn good case. He is top ten easy and probably top 3. And you will never find him pretending that he is Mary Poppins.
not the greatest no way, i mean do u mean the greatest at around his weight?i mean i would give him a shot in his prime against anyone around his weight at any time. His legacy was baldy hurt with his defeats against tarver and johnson if he retired after ruiz he prob would have gone down as a top 10 15 in many peoples list of all time greats
Don't you feel like a fighter needs to prove himself against the best before we can start calling him one of the three best ever?
You have got to be shitting me. Kid Gavilan and Emile Griffith beating out Roy Jones, the supreme artist? Ortiz? These are some good fighters but they are barely above the like of James Toney or Hopkins (talent wise).
