Didn't manage to find the article about Canelo sparring Golovkin but I remember it being described that it was competitive throughout.

Yup both got in good work canelo landed a punch on ggg that shook him to his core, stunned him for a second, but ggg also landed a big shot that made canelos lef cramp for a second it was a competitive sparring for the 20 year old young beast who is on his way to reaching prime, against a prime lion at his physical peak.

I've also heard rumors he knocked out David Tua in sparring a couple years back. Apparently went 6 rounds back to back with Oliver McCall and Marion Wilson in Big Bear last year and had both out on their feet for about five rounds each. Abel Sanchez instructed him to carry McCall because he didn't want the paramedics to come have to pick him up off the canvas.
