Pretty much anyone Mayweather fought about 5 years too late.

 

There are a few at 154-160lbs that would give him a good run for his money.

Nobody at 147lbs though.

 

I would actually favour Mayweather against everyone in his era. He's a great fighter, and it would take another great fighter to beat him.

Judah did do surprisingly well against him for those first four rounds, especially when you consider the knockdown that he should have been awarded. Castillo also gave him a very tough fight in their first match, and some could argue that he even beat him or at least made it close enough for a draw.

In terms of guys with the biggest chance to beat him from his era: I still think the Pac from the Cotto match would have made things interesting, especially in the early rounds.

I also believe Roger Mayweather once said that Vernon Forrest would have been Floyd's 'most difficult test'.

 

Nobody is going to outbox Floyd. Period. 140-160. Nobody outboxes Floyd. Making the fight rough and tough a la Hatton style (smothering) negates Floyd's boxing advantage. Prime DLH would've been interesting. Vernon forest would've iced Floyd. Winky wright would've caused lots of problems too. Prime PWill may've been troublesome due to reach and output, but Floyd wouldve dominated the in-game for a UD i think.

 

Vernon Forrest definitely would've given Floyd hell.

I think prime Mosley and De La Hoya would've given Floyd a lot of problems too due to their ridiculous handspeed that would've made it harder for Floyd to capitalize on.

 

Vernon Forrest would have been a tough fight. Also Cotto before the Margarito fight and him just not trying to cut weight anymore.

If Mayweather ducked Margarito it doesn't matter because he would have picked him apart. Would have been a good test though.

 

Sergio could legitimately beat him. Guerrero if not caught in a boxing match and takes Floyd to the trenches like Castillo did can make him look very bad and easily win the event if not the match in a huge upset. Iron chinned, double fisted, relentless, long enough reach, good stamina, southpaw, and itching for a fight with Floyd I think along with Bradley 2 of boxings most underrated fighters. They're peaks might be short lived, like a Riddick Bowe's, but once they in that zone even the elites and the big name fighters gotta watch out for these fighters.

 

i've never rated oscar that highly. when he's on his toes early he looks terrific, but then he becomes more flat-footed as the fight wears on.

This version of Floyd is basically a trench fighter and is quite adept at posing his own size and strength on someone. The Floyd that fought Castillo was physically weaker and moving up in weight (he was outweighed by 10-15 pounds). He was also far less stationary back then and not as tough on the inside.

Floyd was a more versatile fighter back then, but the current Floyd would probably have an easier time with a Castillo.

... and Guerrero is not close to the fighter that Castillo was.

 

floyd does not have the power to hold off margarito.

 

floyd doesn't need power - he's never relied on that.
he outboxes his opponents and breaks them down

 

Aside from Martinez, I think Canelo's power could give him problems but I would still favor Mayweather in those fights.
