just like when you said martinez was the weakest lineal champion in history , and secondly "complete lack of boxing skills" dude you make me snicker :nut
He is the weakest lineal 160 champ i can remember in the history of the division. Absolute garbage resume at 160. He has no boxing skill at all, which is why Barker and Macklin by implementing simple jabs had him completely flustered. His arms are longer, but he doesn't use distance in his fights. He either in his punching range or he is out, he very rarely uses a jab to keep people at distance and he doesn't use his legs to control distance well at all. Sorry that I hurt your feelings about Sergio though.
Martinez is a 154/160 ambush fighter, a bigger Andre Berto with a better chin, marginally better, we saw how two right hands from chavez had that mother****er ready to call it a night.
You do realize that BHOp has been utilizing his jab less and less as he's gotten older. I guess he's garbage too. Martinez uses feints, angles and subtle movement, to set up his left hand, just like Hopkins does to set up his right. Martinez is a level above regular fighters. He is an elite fighter. Obviously, he's not as tactical as B Hop, but nobody in the game is today. He's still a smart fighter that sets his man up and is versatile to patiently attack against guys like Barker who keeps his distance and deliver intelligent pressure from the center fo the ring, and that Irish guy that was reluctant to do anything. ****, he even attacked Chavez well initially, and Chavez wasn't even in the fight until Martinez' underestimated his chin and will power and began to neglect his body attack to a certain extent. Trout is smaller with a shorter reach. He would probably fight Martinez like the Irish guy "scared," and Martinez would deliver slow and intelligent pressure and clown him and talk **** as well because one guy will be tryin to make a fight and another guy will be tryin to run and get lucky. For the record, Chavez stops Trout. And there is no way in hell Martinez goes down to 154 for anybody but Mayweather or Canelo.
Berto doesn't have any damn foot movement. He's nothing like Berto. If anything, Pacquaio would be a better comparison. In fact, that's a pretty valid comparison considering most of the guys that fight them fight scared. It's up to Martinez to make the fight. Nobody wants to end up like Paul Williams. Chavez is underrated too. The guy put up a good performance.
[yt]iH_8dnIOCoQ[/yt] Wouldn't be surprised if Trout won though. Martinez isn't getting any younger and his stamina might suffer. It takes a lot of energy to go in and out.
Martinez on points depending on what Trout is made of. Trout it seems has become certain ESB poster mr unbeatable.
I agree, that Martinez probably doesn't have much time left, but we can only speculate. Age is the only reason he would lose though.
