Much more of a Ward fan than I've ever been of Calzaghe, but Joes style would have given Andre fits, 60-40 fight in Calzaghes favour imo
I watched the Calzaghe bodyshot on Kessler again. That's a great example of Calzaghe hitting hard but not looking like he's hitting hard.
The major differencies beetweeen those two fights was: Kessler-Calzaghe fought a hard but fair 12 rounder, with most of the rounds going to Calzaghe. He adjusted, and was to fast for kessler. After the fight Kessler was ofc sad but he gave Calzaghe all the credit he deserved.I fact they become "friends" after...The different with ward-Kessler was, already when they landed in the US the Team Kessler was treated like ****..Small things that would annoy every fighter...But back to the fight.. In a worldtitlefight, the referee should be from a neutral country,as the judges. The referee in Ward-Kessler was Referee Jack reiss, from CALIFORNIA... WARDS Home. And one of the judges MR.Steve Morrow also from CALIFORNIA....This and the controversy about Wards Headbutting, holding ECT. Was clearly to favor Ward. The fight itself, was a clear loss to Kessler.Ward did fougt great,But i really hope the will rematch again soon, with atleast some fairness!!! So for me,Calzaghe won fair and it was a great fight...Ward_Kessler = Ward won...see the post fight interview with Kessler-calzaghe and then the postfight interview Kessler-Ward.
Calzaghe for me. Both fighters where at their absolute best that night and the fight was a classic. Regarding the Ward fight, Wards tactics were excellent but I thought Kessler looked a bit flat and maybe underestimated Ward coming into the super 6.
This for a change actually makes sense from you. Kessler was at his best vs JC, against ward he just wasn't there. 2 years had gone between the fights before Kessler fought anyone with a pulse, he's declined even more now. this is how I rated him in his prime - http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=359199 from there to Ward fight I feel Kessler has declined a bit (his allround game has gone down)
Calzaghe at the end of his career, when old and shot, struggling to make weight, with brittle bones beat a young undefeated unified champ, prime fighter. Ward as a young prime fighter, beat a past best, unwell double vision suffering, rusty fighter, who hadnt fought a top 10 fighter for around 3 years and who hadnt fought much for a while, who had been exposed by an old previous SMW champ. Its a case of what you prefer An old past best, brittle boned fighter at the end of his career beating young undefeated unified prime fighter or A young prime fighter fresh in his career, beating a past best rusty, double vision suffering fighter, who has already been exposed by the previous champ I go with the win over the prime undefeated unified champ... CALZAGHE
Imo Ward easy,he made Mikkel look stupid in that fight.I agree that the headbutts were awful, but it would have been the same if there were no headbutts. Mikkel thought it was gonna be a easy fight.
Not fact. Opinion. It cant be a fact because there is no way to prove it. Regardless of which, that wasn't what the thread was about.
both beat him when prime. both when he was a top 2 smw. i think ward looked slightly better in nullifying him.
