Edgar doesn`t have much luck with judges in close fights, I thought he beat Aldo, its not a terrible decision but I thought Frankie edged it, personally.
I thought edgar won the last Henderson fight....and I thought he lost faire and square against Aldo !
i actually agree. i scored rounds 3,4 and 5 to Edgar. Saying that though, and i do see why Aldo go the decision. Even though i thought Frankie won these 3 rounds, he won them by scoring points, as opposed to inflicting damage. But i suppose technically, thats all you need to do to win rounds. Frankie has an inept ability to adapt in the middle of a fight. I think besides his obviously physical talents, this ability he has at figuring out his opponents mid-fight is by and away his greatest asset. id actually bet on Frankie to do the job on Aldo in a rematch. He's so bloody clever. But as i stated, although i scored the final 3 rounds to Frankie, i wouldnt complain about the decision. But i would certainly complain about the judges scorecards, they where outrageous
yeah i thought he won 3-5 too but 3 was close so cant have to many complaints and overall aldo clearly did the more damage aldo with a gas tank would be a nightmare but edgar impressed the hell outta me yet again. what a stud
i watched the fight again just now. And i still have rounds 3-5 for Edgar. the funny thing is. Aldo pretty much did nothing for the 4th and 5th rounds, but in the final 10 secons of round 5, he hit Edgar with a funky looking superman punch off of the cage. Id bet my bottom dollar that left a mark in the judges mind, and he probably won the round with only 1 punch. i personlly break rounds down into halves, or time segments as such. the way i see it, if we just say Aldo won the first half of a round, and was quite active in doing so, but then Edgar did more than Aldo in the second half, but not as clearly winning the round as the first half guy, i would go with the guy that won the first half of the fight. If you know what i mean. i think judges in both mma and boxing, have a tendency to forget the start of the round, and generally give the round to whoever win the last minute or so. Its a flawed system and quite narrow minded way of scoring a fight imo. But thats just the way it goes. either way. It was still a very entertaining fight
Edgar by all rights should be the reigning lightweight and featherweight champion. Greatness is being glossed over on the scorecards.
I had the fight 3-1 for Aldo going into the final round, so I didn't even score the 5th. I thought Frankie needed to find a way to finish before the final bell at that point.
I love Frankie Edgar and no one wanted him to beat Aldo as bad as me... With that being said; Aldo deserved that fight (3-2). I'll have to rewatch the fight of course. Especially the third round. From what I remember: giving it to Edgar would be a stretch. He definitely got his feet wet in that round but it was still controlled by Aldo. Speaking of that fight; has anyone checked FightMetric for that fight? The total strikes and significant strikes don't seem to be separated? http://hosteddb.fightmetric.com/fights/index/4154
Meldrick Taylor was done. Get over it. I'm not the only one that scored it that way. Plenty of professional (sober) fighters scored the fight for Edgar as well. They even watched the final round!
