Joe was 36 and approaching 37. Roy was just a few months away from being 40. Roy had a lot more miles on the clock.

I agree with rest of your post.

Joe had a good chin and was never really hurt. But he did get dropped by Kabary Salem.

He fought out of Britain for 95% of his career though.

Styles make fights - and Calzaghes style would be lethal against Ward. Faster hands, more activity and more angels..............ofcause I dont know who would win, but against Calzaghe, Ward would be tested ...................

Style wise Martinez is up there too.............

Bika's abilities and skills has a great upside and have increased over the years...
back in the day, Sam Soliman beat out Bika too, you think he'd get that win again vs the present day version? In fact, they did have a rematch a few years ago, and Bika did a good job on The Contender. Also stopping Manfredo later on.

The Bika Ward had faced was a veteran, renewed Bika who is at the strong Contender level. I think he's still severely under-rated and has a chance of giving Kessler & Froch a serious run for their money. Not the younger Bika that Calzaghe and Bute beat up.

I have said this all along..

All I hear is "it was an illegal forearm punch" like it was some kind of intentional cheap shot by Roy... but Calzaghe was the one who actually moved his head into the forearm, had Roy hit him with his glove, more power would have been generated, would have hurt Calzaghe even more... I don't see Calzaghe standing either way.. Fact is, Calzaghe was caught in a bad position and got knocked down by Roy, and getting hit with the forearm instead of the fist, may have been a blessing in disguise. The real and clear blessing though, Is Jones was shot and gun shy, and didn't come at him with an aggressive Jones onslaught after he got up.

It would be a good fight, definitely the toughest of both their careers. That said, Ward's defense is just flat too good and like the Hopkins fight, I think Joe would have a very hard time connecting cleanly, and unlike that fight, Ward will be coming back with a lot of clean punches on a consistent basis. Ward UD win, probably something like 116-112.

    VYSOTSKY FACT CHECK ALERT!

    (Fact-checking Vysotsky -- it's a full time -- and ultimately thankless -- job.)

Roy Jones was born January 16th, 1969.

Joe Calzaghe was born March 23, 1972.

Normally, I would say: you do the math.

But, no, I'm going to be thorough.

    According to Boxrec:

Roy and Joe fought on 11/08/2008:

Roy Jones was 39 years old and 6 months

Joe Calzaghe was 36 years and 4 months.

    That's a difference of over 3 years.

The truth is that Ward is becoming a better fighter than a prime Hopkins or a prime RJJ !
People that don't see this thing are very biased with their favorite fighters.

If Ward will fight with the winner of Kessler - Froch rematch, he has very good chances to win the fight by stoppage !

The only real challenges for Ward I see at LHW division. Pascal and Kovalev could give fists to Ward.:yep

Calzaghe would have beaten Ward. It's time for Ward to fight Vitali or Vladimir Klitschko and back up his claims that he can beat all fighters in any weight division. HBO should show that Fight ASAP. My money would be on Klitschko by knockout, total mismatch...............
