What is the most excited you've ever been about a fight? My top 3 are: 1) Lewis v Tyson - Stayed up all night at the age of 15 with my mates convinced that Tyson was going to knock Lewis out. How wrong were we! 2) Froch v Bute - Froch is my favourite fighter and knew it was his last chance or he would retire. 3) Mayweather v Hatton - I was supposed to be watching it at a mates and ended up with sickness and the shits. Watched it in bed and remember not wanting to go to the toilet just in case i missed something.
defo Bruno V Tyson II for me the build was great everyone was buzzing and most of my mates thought bruno would win and i backed Tyson big time happy days
I remember the first Lewis/Holyfield fight and also the Nas/Kevin Kelly fights pretty well, not sure if it was just being quite young and naturally excitable but those stand out in my mind. The build up to Hatton/Mayweather was ridiculous too it was impossible not to get caught up in that hype I was actually giving Hatton a chance against him!
Hatton - Mayweather. That fight made me officially fall in love with the sport of boxing. Had only been a casual fan who watched whenever it was on ITV before then. Was truly broken hearted when Ricky lost. Had I known then what I know now about both fighters I'd never have thought Ricky would win. LOVED the build up though. Was like a Champions League final involving your football team, it was all over the telly, papers and radio.
Benn v Eubank 2 Hatton v Mayweather Lewis vs Holyfield Strangely enough 2 ended in controversial draws and the other the guy i wanted to win got battered from pillar to ringpost.Never thought he'd win but the build up was epic.
Hatton vs Mayweather I can only echo the sentiments of an earlier poster, the hype was unreal, sky did an amazing job of promoting the fight. It was that fight that turned me from a casual fan to a hardcore supporter, fights that big only come around every 6-7 years, an amazing spectacle.
I was pretty excited for Haye/Wlad even though I knew it was unlikely to be a riveting fight, major anti climax in the end as virtually nothing happened and other than one right hand in the last round Haye gave us very little to cheer. I didn't think he would actually win but I thought it would be more of a fight and he would throw a bit more leather. That was a bad one for the casual fan as they had probably not watched boxing since the Haye/Audley fight and that was also dross.
Most fights that Involved Benn / Eubank / Bruno / Naz always seemed to be exciting, Hatton for me is the only one to come close to replicating the buzz in that era.
Calzaghe Kessler Hatton Mayweather Although not Boxing Fedor vs Andrei Arlovski I just couldn't wait for that fight I was so excited for that fight I was literally on edge for 24 hours after It had happened (It was on Tape delay on Bravo).
Mayweather vs Hatton... WAS the most epic and electrifying build up to a fight iv ever seen before or since. Something ultra special about it. When the national anthems played and The ring walks were about to start my heart was pounding so fast i thought I was gunna have a heart attack it was just too exciting
