More Humiliating and embarrassing schooling. Pavlik or Lacy?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by SportsScience, Feb 11, 2013.

  1. Both were in the full Prime of their careers.
Hopkins beat the living **** out of Pavlik
Calzaghe beat the living **** out of Lacy.
Both losses caused break downs from their fans and families.
    Which one was more humiliating+embarrassing+brutal

i burst a lung with "BEAT THE LIVING ****,,," ,,, not that its not a fair description, lmao,

yeah tough call, the Pavlic fight was against a master and legend and yes yes sure sure Joe has a legacy but lets be fair it aint the legacy of Hopkins

the Calzaghe fight was more of a total shocker for me , Lacy seemed freaking amazing at that time, i dont know, all i do is think one of them was worse and then i change my mind,

Pavlik lost to a man who knows every trick in the game, he also gave Sergio a good fight.

Lacy was beat so bad that it literally ruined him

    Good comparison!

For me, Pavlik got more humiliating than Lacy. Why? Because he was the fovorite in the fight. Most people at that time thought that Pavlik will KO Hopkins but I didn't think that way since Hopkins has never been KO'ed by anyone.

Most people thought Lacy would beat Calzaghe inside the 12 as well, so how's that any different?

Pavlik lost to a living legend.
    Lacy lost to some sheep-shagger.

    Just kidding, B!

The Lacy fight. Lacy was the favourite, was hyped as a mix of holyfield and tyson. He tried to intimidate joe before the fight and called him a slapper and ended up taking one of the worst beatings you'll ever see in front of a packed uk crowd. I honestly find it hard to watch towards the end.

Easy. Internet search for Calzaghe Lacy Predictions. I'll give you some examples.

From the first link that coms up in a google search since I can't link to it for some reason.

Hank Kaplan - Calzaghe is a smart fighter in the ring, but I think Lacy is too much for him. I like Lacy in this fight. I think Lacy should stop him.

Sammy Rozenberg - I see Calzaghe hustling Lacy for most of the fight with his boxing skills, until Lacy catches up to him in the later rounds and ends it. Lacy in 11 by KO

Of 27 people predicting the fight there 19 went for a Lacy win and only one who did so went for a win by decision.

    From here: http://www.thesweetscience.com/news/articles/3430-lacy-calzaghe-fight-predictions

Matt Aguilar - This seems like a fight between two fighters going in opposite directions. Lacy is the up-and-comer with the big dreams and the bigger punch. Calzaghe is the longtime champ with patience and experience on his side. Early on, that experience might give Lacy some problems. Calzaghe has sharp boxing skills and very good hand speed. But, lately, he's been fading down the stretch – a sure sign of age. Had this fight taken place two years ago, the outcome could possibly have been different. But now, Calzaghe just doesn't have the late firepower to hold a raging monster like Lacy off for 12 rounds. But don't be surprised if Lacy has to come from behind to do it. Lacy, by big left hook, in the 11th round.

Zachary Levin - Calzaghe will run but he can't hide from Lacy's pressing attack. When he's forced to fight, the southpaw from Wales will square up and resort to wide, slapping arm-punches. He will then get dropped – hard. Lacy's also guilty of occasionally loading up, especially the overhand right, but he's not as bad as his opponent. The Floridian's defense, speed and agility is improving with each bout. His brutal combinations never lose their force and snap. Youth and strength will trump experience Saturday night. Lacy KO 8.

Of 13 people predicting the fight 12 went for a Lacy win with nine of them predicting a knock out and only one predicting a Lacy win on points (the other two were vague in how Lacy would win but clearly believed he would).

    From here: http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Cocks/Cocks030406.htm

Brent Hedtke - This one has all the ingredients of real corker. Both guys have solid chins and very respectable power. If they come out aggressive this could be a fight of the year candidate. That being said, I just don't see how Calzaghe can beat ‘Left Hook’. Joe hasn't looked the same since his fight with Byron Mitchell in 2003 and he's been down twice in his last five fights. Lacy has never come close to tasting the canvas and he hasn't even reached his peak yet. Lacy has fought the better opposition as of late and is only improving. Calzaghe has fought at a much slower pace and may be on the downslide. In the end, Lacy's pressure, aggression and power will get to Joe and the changing of the guard in the super middleweight division will come in the eighth round via TKO.

Peter Chhim - Lacy TKO Calzaghe. Lacy is a beast. Add to that he spars with the best southpaw middleweight in the world, Winky Wright, and I seriously doubt Calzaghe will bring anything to the table Lacy can’t handle. Look for him to put a serious hurt on Joe whenever the two get into their heated exchanges. And because of the Englishman’s affinity to these kinds of exchanges, I have to think he’ll play right into the hands of the younger, stronger man. I doubt the fight gets past 7 or 8 rounds.

Of 13 people predicting the fight 11 went for a Lacy win with 9 went for a Lacy win via stoppage, 1 went for a Lacy win on point and one said either Lacy point win or late stoppage.

Jeff Lacy. Not even close. Atleast Pavlik at times looked like he had some boxing training and ability. Hopkins was just too skilled and was circling away from his power hand and never staying in range till the end of the fight when e had Kelly gassed and easy picking.

Slappy Joe straight took it to Lacy. Embarrassing beat down. He was in Lacy's wheel house the entire fight and Lacy just looked flat out ugly the entire fight. Punches had absolutely no snap in them. Calzaghe was laughing in his face. "He can't hit ****" crowd "easy!" "easy!"

    Ridiculous schooling.

MAJR, Alright alright I believe you this time. My bad. Thanks for the info. anyway.

However, this doesn't change my opinion that Pavlik got more humliating than Lacy.

The lacy beatdown ,no contest really.Everybody was hyping lacy at the time and the vast majority of people thought he would whip joe's ass.Thats what made it so shocking.
