Heavy weight lifting can't slow you down, it can make you faster and more explosive because you can recruit your fast twitch muscles more easily. If it's all you do you'll slow down, but that's because of what you're not doing (speed work, boxing etc.) rather than weightlifting itself. Boxers don't lift to put on mass so that's why they're generally not muscular, but the smart boxers lift heavy and functional weights. Lifting heavy, low reps means you increase strength with little muscle gain. Your coach has no control over you guys, he says unhelpful things, he doesn't emphasise technique, he allows that sort of 'sparring' to go on and he is an obvious 'ego' coach. He thinks he's the man because he's a boxing coach. It's obvious he's not a teacher or a smart guy. I'd be very surprised if there are any decent boxers coming out of that gym.
heavy lifting doesn't make you slow smh and your coach is one of those guys you find at money making gyms. I've spent my first five months in one.
He definitely has his flaws when it comes to teaching, I will say that. He is always telling you what to do instead of taking the time to show you what to do, and hone it with repetition. Don't let what you see me doing in there cloud your opinion of him, though. The guy has experience in some notable gyms around the US. He knows his ****. Maybe he has changed since he's gotten older, and is more about making money now, but I have seen his credentials, and they are impressive. I live in Orlando. There really aren't that many boxing gyms around here. This one is close to my house. The other one I used to (MMA's Seth Petruzelli's gym) got rid of the boxing program, and the only other one I know of has classes that clash with my work schedule.
I wouldn't be proud of KO'ing that chubby mofo. Although i did laugh when the camera goes on you at 1.35 :rofl
i feel kinda bad for the kid.....needs to be doing a slip bag rope drills and some practing his footwork....
Good. This we can seriously comment on. Real sparring :good First of all you didn't get your ass kicked, it's just sparring. Bad sparring is not when you "lose", it's when you didn't do better than last time. Second, work on the basics. Keep your guard higher, your right hand should be at your cheek (on the phone). The left should also be higher but you can play a bit with it depending on the distance. Don't pull your head back, it'll just line you up for a second punch. Try to block or slip (make him miss) and then counter (make him pay). A defensive action that doesn't lead to an offensive action merely delays your execution (not my quote but I have no idea who said it). I know because I am often way too defensive. Commit to your jab, concentrate on that for now. Don't be scared of the counter, you'll get hit anyway as you learn. Don't move back in a straight line when attacked. It's all basics but very important. If you could improve only one of these things when adrenaline is pumping you've made progress.
To think this half wit actually commented on wanting to fight me:rofl:rofl:rofl You are ****ing dreadful. Quit trying to pretend to look like a fighter and hire someone for your "film"
I take it you are preparing for this film: [yt]n5i8LkFAuag[/yt] When can we expect it to be released?
