In the traditional sense the heavywt champs of yesterday trained down from whatever was their walkaround weight. Marciano trained down to that weight from his walkaround weight of around 220. Today Marciano would be fighting at 215 and looking like Chris Arreola. Think bout this, John L Sullivan, 1890's, Dempsey,1920's, Louis, 30's-40"s, Marciano,1950's. People still talk about these guys, argue which was best, the Klitschko's I believe will never be talked about in that sense. Add to it the names of Liston, Ali, Frazier, early Foreman, Tyson, all relativitly small heavyweights by todays standard, these guys made the division great.
If the Klitschko's were 6'3, 210-215, would they be as dominating as they are right now? Please! These big guys are whats ruining heavyweight boxing, a few years ago there was a cruiserwt title fight between two English "Cruisers", David Haye vs Enzo Maccarinelli both weighing about 200pds they stirred things up in their title fight, more so then just about every Klitschko fight. Instead we get an endless parade of fat plodding fighters. We are to blame, I would love more fights like Haye -Maccarinelli, now thats heavyweight fighting.

We need a good all round puncher with stamina to knock over these walking giants with **** stamina, Wlad as much as it pains me to say it is a great fighter just boring... But a ferocious fighter with well placed shots could take him problem is we dont have one thats why hes dominating so easily nobody wants to fight him, theres a reason we call fighters today ''boxers'' not ''fighters
In the past guys like Frazier Dempsey Marciano Ezz Charles are fighters the guys in the heavy division now arent fighters at all they want to get out of the fight scratch free with their paycheck, we need heavyweight versions of guys with the mentality of guys like Tony Zale and Carmen Basilio they would always ask if they gave the crowd their moneys worth, and they always did

If around today, they would not try to get weight down as much as possible, which is what trainers in old days did with even heavyweights. Marciano weighed 196 after 2 day delay of 2nd Charles fight, and was still slim. Just replenishing muscle a bit added the weight, easy. Then we have weight lifting today, something frowned on in old days. I think even at their old weights, they beat most of fighters if not all of today. Vitali being one exception to me.

Yes Dempsey,Marciano etc would all start at CW but how long before each and every one of them came up? The would all be HW still. If a 175 pound Adamek can come up to HW and beat Grant and challenge Klitschko,Dempsey who was 190 could easily come to 210-220 and with that power! Dempsey would still be a champion if he fought today.

All of these peoples complaining about today's heavyweights about being giants and heavy, are like peoples complaining that nowadays sumo fighters are way heavyer than the past ones... and thinking that the past ones could beat the today's one... seriously, Marciano was great and all, but there is no way he could compete in the actual heavyweight scene.

Exactly why the heavyweight division is the most boring it's ever been...
