140: Rios vs Broner

Knocking out anyone from lightweight & below when you're bigger than them all doesn't mean you have more power than a guy who campaigns at a weight class higher than you. How do you know if Broner can stop a real jr welterweight with 1 punch??

 

Mitchell and Corely are not 5"3 and dwarfed by Mayweather. Broner's first gameplan was not working and he promptly adjusted and the difference was plain to see in the 3rd round. First couple of rounds Broner was happy to try and counter Rees's work and look pretty doing it, he adjusted and completed what you have just typed in you post. He was not on the attack from the 1st bell, im not quite sure why you are trying to claim he was doing instead.

 

I don't think this is true. Broner didn't walk through the punches and throw at Rees, he was always aware and making an effort not to get hit by Rees. His head snapped back a few times and he was trying to maintain range whenever he wasn't coming forward. Rees was staying low, making Broner hesitant as he was trying to pick his shots, and on the inside, worked his body a lot. These are the same problems he had against PDL.

 

He wasn't making an effort to really avoid shots because it couldn't trouble him. His D was tighter vs Demarco because Demarco hits harder. I'd personally like to see him have a tight D regardless of the opponent that's something he'll have to learn though.

 

I like Rio by chin and workrate. this fight would be real good imo.

 

Would love to see it. Broner would end up beating Rios.

 

I guess that's why he beat ths hit outta Demarco who was the taller man. Rios is tailormade for Broner. :deal A guy who would stand in front of Broner and let him tee off. Broner lights him up with counters and combos all night.

 

But there were shots he ate that clearly weren't soft touches. He did look tighter against DeMarco, I agree, he's better when a fighter hangs out on the inside, rather than an opponent going in and out, because he can't quite see what they're going to throw that way. I don't think he just let himself get hit because there were times be backed up and still ate shots. This is the same thing PDL used to make the fight so competitive.

 

No he's not. Broner has faster hands more explosive and more varied boxing game. Rios fights only one way he's good at it but limited. Stylistically Broner matches up well with Rios not the other way around. Broner would be first all night long against Rios and Rios would be trying to play catch up the whole fight.

 

I'm not denying that he ate shots, I'm simply stating why he felt the need to not really make an attempt to evade shots. No, Its not that he just let himself get hit but he felt that if he got hit it wouldnt matter as he was hellben on getting Rees out of there. If Rees has pop then there is no way Broner fights like that.

 

Correct. Broner had no respect for Rees' power. If Rees had better power he would have put up better defense.

 

Rios wins this and I don't think its
that competitive

 

Richard Abril at times in their match, wasn't moving at all. Let me repeat that, Abril, at times, wasn't moving AT ALL. It doesn't take much to nullify Rios's offense. I'd have to see how strong Broner is at 140, but there is no indication that Rios has acquired the skill set or ring smarts to counter Adrien's defensive posture.

 

I understand your point but I'm saying he visibly tried to avoid certain shots and couldn't. Hence the PDL mention. We'll see how he improves along the way.

This is a good point. Abril was able to hold Rios at bay on the inside with his lead arm. I think there might be a strength discrepancy through that might not allow Broner to do the same. Alvarado at times used a philly shell type guard, Rios showed improved lateral movement in the pocket to get new punching angles.

 

This would probably be an easy TKO for Broner in the late rounds. Rios does well when he has a guy who goes in the trenches with him. Although if Rios fought a guy like Randall Bailey I don't think he could fight his style too well. I like Rio's heart and he is an exciting fighter, but that style will not get him too many wins against top guys.
