Things have come a long way since Festival Hall was the best venue Melbourne could serve up.

Kind of funny Ringo Starr is playing there at the moment when there are much bigger and better venues available - perhaps it's a nostalgia trip for him from his Beatles days?

Hoping we get to see JWP vs Franki Giorgi and or Jordan Watson on either of the next 2 powerplay shows in Melbourne.
Buakaw would be the ultimate clash though.

I keep hearing JCVD talking about this fight, though. I can't wait when it happens. JCVD is a real martial artist, I expect a good, competitive fight.

Mate, when I was a kid I loved Van Damme's movies (I still do) but if you genuinely think he has a chance of winning that fight you are delusional.

Mate, I know you know and write about MMA to a high standard, but Thai MT is a totally different ball game. In a striking context a guy like Anderson Silva would be out of his depth in one of BKK's stadiums.

Do you know who Somrak is and what he's achieved? JCVD is nothing but a movie star pretender. If movie guys like Benny the Jet and Don Wilson can't hack it against smaller Thais giving weight what is sexy JCVD gonna do against a Thai MT ATG?

It's laughable, laughable to think it would anything other than a slaughter!

Although it might've been a glorified exhibition mind you.

Many of you are misinformed. JCVD is 44-4 in full contact kickboxing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Claude_Van_Damme

I saw an interview where he talked about how he was ashamed of using drugs, was a hero to his kids, and felt he needed to redeem himself. That's why he is doing this fight-- the first movie star to crossover and do a real fight.

JCVD is a lot bigger than Somluck, who competed at 57 kilos/130 lbs. We all know size is an advantage in a striking contest.

    ^Good info in this documentary.

Yes and not only is Muay Thai far more deadly, JCVD is 50.

You are misinformed anyway as I saw Somluck, from ringside two weeks ago today, looking strong and pretty chiselled at 150lbs.

Did you watch the video? Did you hear the emotion in JCVD's voice when he says "I will not LOSE THIS FIGHT!"

    That's not acting, that's real.

I'm starting to get the feeling you're a ****ing idiot with no ability to judge a fighter.

I'll give your book a miss.
