Name some of the worst management decisions made by some boxers in the past few years. Jessie Vargas switching to Top Rank was one. He used to be Mayweather Promotion's top dog and was always guranteed a spot on a Mayweather undercard. I don't even think his last fight was televised and nobody mentions him anymore :verysad Chad Dawson idea which one to point out. Him switching trainers the first, second, third..... or 100th time. Also deciding to try and come down to 168 pounds to fight Ward was an awful idea. Gamboa's whole situation with the Rios fight was handled terribly. That got him blackballed by Arum for a while and then he had 50 Cent and Floyd buy out his contract from Arum so he can join SMS promotions. Because of 50 buying out his contract though, Gamboa had to take a 50-75K dollar purse in his last fight. Oh and it doesn't help that he is having PED allegations thrown his way recently. Name some more
Dirrell leaving Al Haymon. Anyone who signed with Fiddy. Maskaev's early career management was idiotic.
- 50 Cent blowing his relationship with Mayweather. When you have the most lucrative commodity in boxing (Mayweather) as the foundation of your newly established stable, no matter how mercurial that star is, you do NOT fugg that up. - Cory Spinks taking the Zab Judah rematch. Here you have a legacy kid with a very marketable name within boxing (boxing family Spinks) who is holding 3 belts (the ones that count) in a division (WW) that huge draws like ODLH, Mosley, and Mayweather are all considering joining/rejoining. Lost all that opportunity to take a fight against a guy you just beat. Should have parlayed that position MUCH better.
Rendall Munroe leaving Frank Maloney and signing for Hatton - completely ruined his chances of getting another world title fight and ended up losing at a lower level and retiring.
Marquez declining an immediate rematch with Pac(after the first fight) and instead taking on Chris John in Indonesia for peanuts and getting robbed in a close but clear fight that imo should have went his way. Oscar De La Hoya not wanting to fight Margo at 154 saying "i dont want to fight anymore mexicans" then dropping down to 147 where he was drained to the bone to take on Pacquiao which ended with him taking the biggest beating of his career, quiting and retiring from boxing.
I for one was never sold on the Ricky Hatton - Floyd Snr Link-up - should of stayed with Billy Graham.
If you're gonna' include bad trainer decisions, then Tyson Fury wins the prize: Manny Steward gave up on him in early 2011, but instead of finding a top replacement, he decides to train with his father & his uncle. - That's like punching yourself in the face two more times.
