I saw an interview with Haugen a few years ago, and he sounded fine. So the slurring is something that must be relatively recent. Greg never was the most articulate guy to begin with, but yeah, based on that video he does sound punchy. Brutal sport.
Thats pretty much Haugen's pace and tempo of talkng, I've heard him in a few other interviews over the years, Greg Haugen is not brain damaged or punch drunk if thats what you want to call it.
I agree with what has been said so far. He was never terribly articulate but the slurring isn't encouraging. That said, he's not nearly as bad as Meldrick Taylor or Bobby Chacon. Don't forget though, Haugen had a history of drug and alcohol abuse apparently, so this might not be all boxing related. Still if stuff like this doesn't convince a fighter to hang up the gloves one fight too early, I don't know what will.
Camacho also seems to slurring in his later years, although his speaking tone/accent has always been like that even in 80's but Haugen, I really think something has gone wrong pretty much like Meldrick Taylor. I was watching some old fights on youtube last night and then randomly clicking this video and was quite surprise he sounds like that... and he didnt look good/healthy in that pic either. Perhaps drugs is the reason.
I'm pretty sure thats what he was, drunk! Here's an interview from just a few years ago where he's speaking quite clearly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=118w1FDx3UY
Haugen sounds just fine. I can't stand you disparaging **** cocksuckers to start something like this. You got nothing better to talk about. COCKSUCKERS !!!!
