Anyone remember he took a flush shot after the bell when he had no guard and was all relaxed and just went about buisness, compare that to the tigers lazy hook and its confusing. Is it that spot behind the ear or just something else?
TBF didn't he stagger slightly after that shot?. TBH the levels of punch quality are different. No disrespect to Ingleby but Thompson's got more power even in a shorter punch.. The irony of Rawling mentioning Price's chin in same round made me laugh .
The British commentator boy was just talking about how the Kiltschkos would be looking on with interest, just before Thompson exploded that feather duster on Price's upper neck.
"I can assure you that Tyson Fury will be watching on eagerly... There have been questions about David's chin... Oh nooooo he's all over the place" All within 45 seconds, beautifully done.
I'm not a Doctor but the basic process that stops a human from falling over is the following:- 1) The labyrinth (part of the inner ear) determines bearings which... 2) The brain then uses to transmit signals to the legs and body to compensate to keep balance. When a fighter gets smashed on the chin, the brain resonates in the skull which prevents stage 2 happening even though stage 1 is fine. We know that it is fact the Price's ear drum was perforated by the punch which got me thinking. If the ear drum perforates, then this would cause pretty significant movement of the tiny middle ear bones which are connected from the ear drum to the inner ear - where the labyrinth is. If this has happened then it is plausible that it is only stage 1 that failed rather than stage 2 which would make sense given that it seemed like an innocuous punch. If this is the case then, Price may not be a chinny as he seemed after the shot landed - time will tell. On the other hand I think Froch suffered a perforated ear drum at some point though I'm not sure if that was in sparring or in the Pascal fight.
The position of the punch by Thompson was the difference. I made the comparison in another thread between Thompson/Price and Ottke/Mundine. I don't believe Price has a good chin, but the placement of that punch can knock out tough opponents, even if the person delivering the punch lacks power, as Ottke did. Mundine didn't have a **** chin, so there is a valid argument to say that although Price's chin may not be solid, the positioning of the punch made it's effects a lot worse. I'd be more worried for Price if he had been knocked out by a straight right to the chin. That would have been far more problematic, but as this was a blind shot to the ear which messed up his equilibrium, it probably caused more damage than a normal shot would have.
I think it was Robin Reid which did that to Froch, not sure if it happened in the Taylor fight though :good
So, Price isn't chinny, he's eary! He'll come back. Price v Harrison, vacant title after the Klitchkos retire. And well done you Swans.
I completely agree with this. The right hand he took on the chin back then proves that if Thompsons would've hit him on the chin rather than behind the ear / on the soft neck part, he would've been fine. People get overly excited and jump to too many conclusions at the end of these fights.
