    Over here we had coverage of the recent Broner v Rees fight you all saw it but post fight after the interviews what almost became the main point in the studio was Broner & his ring walk attitude etc.

    We have a hour long programme in the UK called ringside weekly for a hour they spent 10 mins talking about Broner's comments pre & post fight the dedicated fan can & SHOULD see the difference it sells tickets.When you have fans that are almost as interested in seeing you lose as win you have actually won!:thumbsup

    Again the casual MMA fan believes the UFC is MMA they are catering for fights that reflect their casual fans ie highlight reel ko's stand up fights.Ground game minimal except a quick mount finish or sub armbar etc.

    Fitch gets cut because he is a good technical fighter but you never really expect anything but a hard tight ground out win & that is how Zuffa & DW see it.Can he headline a PPV not imo no $.

    Again look at a fighter that is middle card Chris Leben they didn't cut him because win or lose you will see hands thrown & does what the company reaquires.Regardless of his last fight a couple of years ago he fought on back to back tv/PPV shows again will never headline but is more fan freindly style!

    True M, but be careful on that getting fan's to want to see you lose, cos there is a fine line where the fan's hate makes them stay away from any shows they are on.
    A good example is 2008 US Olympian Luis Yanez, he was and is a brash talking, flashy fighter, always trash talking to his opponents. Cos of his trashtalking he has fought less then 10 times as a pro, instead of people wanting to see him beat, the fan's dont want to see him period, lesson to learn, be yourself and have the ability to back up your trash talking. Yanez had a boring stinking syle which didn't help.

    Take the guys who the fan's loved to hate, Hector "Macho" Camacho, and a young Muhammad Ali, there was something you had to like about them, so beware it can backfire.

    Now folks, lets talk bout the David Price vs Tony Thompson fight. Is it a good example of bad management, rushing a fighter or a greedy promoter? It was a comination of all three. IMO that did Price in, but the one to blame is the manager/advisor if he had one. They accepted the fight, Price's team could have said and should have said "give us a few more fights then we will see.". The promoter should have protected Price and given him the opportunity to gain experience. This fight tells me, that either the promoter didn't know what he had, an inexperienced guy who might be chinny, or the promoter was paying Price big money and he needed to put on somebody with a name to justify what he is paying Price or that the TV demanded he fight somebody cos they were paying big time purses.
    Tyson Fury is next, he is another one who lacks the experience and probably making great money, his promoter is going to make matches to justify that money.

    Price faced Harrison and Skeleton, no slouches by any means.

    I don't think it was bad matchmaking for him to face Thompson. He might have undertrained, been injured or just not talented enough to beat Thompson.

    This is not a situation like Amir Khan/Bradis Prescott (Colombian with dynamite in his hands vs a chinny fighter).

    Price is managed by Frank Maloney who back in the day managed Lennox Lewis.Maloney really made the deal of a lifetime in signing Lewis.This country had been crying out for a heavyweight champion going back a century he sold the angle to Lewis & the rest is history!He was also dealing with a very very intelligent man in Lewis who once he broke through here Maloney became manager in name only Lewis was making the decisions compounded when he teamed up with Manny Steward.The business decisions were made generally by himself ie opponents & he was well aware of his value purse wise PPV etc.Maloney was kept on by Lewis because he showed an appreciation for Maloneys initial belief in Lewis no other reason.What it gave Maloney was a great selling point to any fighter especially heavyweights i managed Lewis i know how to take you to the top!

    Price has a contract that is due to expire very soon with Maloney the fight against Thompson was shown over here on boxnation Mr W's subscription channel.They rolled the dice trying to get him ranked which it would of done had he won & the cynic in me tells me they wanted to show Price they were the right manager & tv platform to move him on.I strongly believe he has a deal in place to move promoter very soon.

    Long winded reply but this is just my view there is a lot of talk about Price being signed on expiration of contract by Matchroom boxing Eddie Hearn the promoter with his exclusive SKY deal.I 100% expect that to happen.

    Over here you can see that having a lot of truth Price is a regular guest on the weekly SKY boxing show here ringside why would they bring him on if he is fighting on a diffferent platform long term?Obvious to me!

    T a fighters team should not be blind to their fighters weaknesses, Price was not ready and it was obivious.

    M thanks for the insights, but Price will have to start over and now that he has been exposed as chinny everybody will be gunning for him. The guy has only 16 pro fights, give him time to develop, but I am guessing they wont.

    Some say Tommy Morrison was protected too long, lost confidence in himself and that's why he couldn't hang at the top levels. But he always had chin issues, right?

    There's no official rankings or mandatory contenders or outside sanctioning bodies in MMA whatsoever.

    So the UFC can pretty much do whatever it wants in terms of matchmaking. UFC would have to threaten to strip fighters of its organizational title or to blacklist them to get them to fight certain high risk/low reward opponents.

    There's got to be more to this story that isn't being reported, though.

    T you're right Morrison was chinny, look at it from a business POV, it made sense to feed Morrison baby food, it made sense to keep him in the heavyweight picture by giving him a few win's. Morrison was highly marketable and made good fights for TV, and I hate to say it, he was white. In reality he was limited by his overall skills and his chin. Now that Price has been exposed the promoters should follow the Morrison model, cos I am guessing Price's chin will let him down again.
    As far as protecting Morrison too long, Morrison's management and promoter did a good job in moving him. Price and team, on the other hand was tossing the dice.

    I heard David Reid's droopy eyelid meant his team KNEW he had a short shelf-life and that's why he was put in with Trinidad so soon.

    So to get a payday, that was a good move (but one that destroyed him overall).
