You do realise that the bigger boxing gloves are designed to 1. protect the fighters hand from breaking so they can throw harder for longer periods and 2. minimise visible bruising and cuts on the opponent.

The reason you see MMA fighters bruise and bleed more often is because they're getting hit with the pointed areas of the elbow and the shape of the glove not by harder shots.

Are you sure you've actually trained in combat sports and not just done a fitness class because this is stuff you learn about on day one.

Well, it's harder to defend against those small gloves as they are pretty penetrating ...............

and most of the MMA guys have sucky punch defense anyway, so they get hit CLEANLY. Of course there are more KOs, and lots of ways to get stopped in MMA if it isn't a defensive clenchfest on the ground in somebody's guard.

Two guys who know punches are coming and don't have to worry about kicks and being grabbed are going to have better defensive skills up top, and they can just look at their opponents chest and maybe just glance down occasionally to take note of their opponent's movement without worrying about a low takedown attempt or a kick, so boxers will of course be harder to knock out in a boxing match.

Be serious. Watch the Diaz brothers hit someone 700 times with 4 ounce gloves on and you have your answer. The reason there are so many knockouts is because they are fighting wrestlers who haven't had their chins checked coming through the amateur ranks. No top rated amateur...much less professional boxer has a weak chin. Not David Price, not Michel Bennett, not Wlad, no one.

Lack of swelling and damage has to do with the boxing gloves being designed to keep your face pretty.
As for the speed vs pure power thing, against skilled fighters fast precise punches are always more effective then slow plodding bombs, be it in boxing or mma

That seems to be the prevailing viewpoint these days, however that's not what Jack Dempsey (himself a hard puncher) believed.

that doesn't mean it can't or doesn't have to be developed or honed.

they don't plant their feets in MMA, always light on their feets, maybe because of kicking and takedowns.
but it takes pover way from punches.

    I think some do.

Melvin Manhoef is one of the most explosive punchers I've ever seen at any weight. Of course, he's totally roided to the gills, which probably helps, but still, phenomenal power.

Mike Zambidis is a hell of puncher as well. Ridiculously heavy handed for his size.

Mighty Mo was touted by Botha as the hardest puncher he ever faced. Considering the way he took out Botha I'm not surprised. Incredible natural heavy handedness.

I don't follow MMA much but it wouldn't surprise me if someone like Carwin punched harder than a lot of heavyweight boxers. He has absolutely huge fists, and giant ****** arms, and about 260 lbs of raw muscle. Could he beat them in boxing? No of course not. Could he punch harder in terms of pure force? Very possibly.

In some cases. There is an episode of "Sports Science" where they measured the punching power of Chris Byrd (using a boxing glove) and Rampage Jackson (using MMA glove) Byrd hit at 1,300 pounds and Jackson hit at 1,900 pounds. I know Byrd was never known for his punching power and was using a heavier glove but you asked the question and this is one example. I'd bet on average though that HW boxers hit the hardest.
