We have an amateur event on saturday at my gym, and my trainer tells me "if nobody shows up in your weight class, with equal experience( No fights), then you can't box. Guess you can say, I'm a little angry, and worried. Is this how they match in the amateurs, or is this just how they do it in a hick state like South Carolina?
No, that's pretty universal. Unless you'd rather have your coach toss you in with an open-class fighter on the understanding that he won't go all out; which might not be the best idea. It happens all the time in major cities though; and even out here in Montana, even though it's not supposed to.
That sounds like a silly way to organize a show. You could quite easily end up with no even / fair bouts at all. Is this an official event or just something run by your club to get their lads some experience? In the UK, most clubs use a database which has the boxers age, weight, experience etc and bouts can be arranged well in advanced (i.e. a month before).
