People who state that Mayweather's 0 is meaningless

It's all about competition...

but it's also about BEATING that competition.

So, never losing a pro fight holds massive significance if the competition is world class.

For example; Oscar would be far greater had he remained undefeated through his competition. Period. End of.

 

He did not take the fight because Arum wanted other options with that 8mill promoters have say in who fights who now days. Besides he fought the lineal champ...if he fights Margo who at the time had fought nobody....he would have got bashed for not fighting Baldo. But i get your point he should fight both...right? At least i think thats what your saying.

He didnt fight Cotto, which i would have loved to have seen, but again there is a certain someone involved, also more stipulations attached to fight Cotto, who also stated he did not try to get a fight with Floyd either, you know sometimes it aint just Floyd who wants to avoid the loss to continue to make good money. Instead though he fights the higher ranked P4P Hatton(who did win a tittle at 147 previously) who everybody and there mother wanted to see. Dont give me that Hatton didnt look good at 147 cus Floyd doesnt look good at 154 but yet we still expect him to fight Martinez,Trout, and Canelo...right? Not his fault at 140 Cotto and Hatton just werent ready...go figure.

How did he duck a fighter in Pac who he offered the very best deal the first time only to be turned down and accepted damn near 2 years later. He didnt duck him....Pac turned it down! Im not blaming anyone...but if you can accept it later then you could have accpeted it previously you opted to turn it down for whatever reason...thats not a duck.

It's not a 0 in my book - he "lost" to Castillo in the first fight, no doubt about it! He got bullied in that fight - that fight should be a blueprint for Guerrero

Just to add - regarding the "0" there are many fighters much greater than Mayweather that have losses. Leonard was defined by his loss to Duran and his comeback in the 2nd fight - the greatness of a fighter is largely measured by his losses and how he comes back from that

For me, Pacquiao lost to Morales, a true great and one of my favourite evers but came back - if Pacquiao was to somehow come back to the top with a big win over Marquez and go on from there, that would enhance his legacy in a big way

A "0" just doesn't mean as much if you're fighting the Guerrero and Ortiz's of this world - Castillo was his last big big match-up, ironically he lost 1 of those - DLH was finished. Perhaps Judah was a big one as well to be fair as he won the welterweight championship (also should have had a KO scored against him in that fight but got away with it)...but basically out of all the fights since Castillo perhaps only Judah was a good match-up on paper as he was challenging for the title - the rest have been calculated cherry picks and that was 7 years ago!!!

 

All big names boxers would have been undefeated had they cherry
picked their opponents the way Mayweather does.

Most great fighters had a loss. A zero does not mean anything except they avoided the tough competition. How can a great fighter be great without tasting defeat and showing what he is made of by coming back and winning at high level..

 

8 world titles in 5 different weight classes. 3 lineal titles and won the first one at the age of 21 while going undefeated the whole time while being 36 years old.

That's an accomplishment
