Rigondeaux's punching power... Overrated?

well, I recall Rigo panicking and stinking out the whole place after he got hurt by Cordoba. I reckon being dropped by a jab must be a huge psychological blow for a boxer.

It's easy for a skilled fighter to look good against bums

Rigo's fans should understand that little nugget of information

Rigo struggled with Cordoba, almost lost to him. Got wobbled by mediocre Marroquin who wasn't even trying. Those two are his best opponents so far, Rigo couldn't KO them. The rest on Rigo's resume are bums that wouldn't last 3 rounds against Donaire, and that includes Rico Ramos, strong candidate for worst champion in history award

meanwhile, Donaire has been KOing and dominating top fighters for years, never really struggling with anyone, a partially swollen eye against Vazquez is the greatest damage he's taken in many, many years, the only fighters Donaire has been unable to KO are those who are overly defensive, scared shitless of his power, and even those get KO'ed sometimes, just ask Nishioka

yet Rigo is supposed to blow Donaire out of the water somehow :nutcase

 

Definitely... but body punching is a difficult art that is rarely seen at the level that Rigo performs.

 

I watched that fight again recently. He didn't panic. He became more cautious after the knockdown, but was still picking his shots well and dealing with the rough and tumble fight Cordoba made it into.

 

And Donaire lost to a 2-1-0 janitor

 

He was hurt to the body in the Arce fight.

 

I am wondering if Donaire fans are youngster with an average age range between 15 to 24 years old. If this is the case, then I can understand their mentality.

Let Rigondeaux show you what poise is and how to negate a specific attack routine. let Rigondeaux show you the art of feinting to open up difficult openings. Watch how Rigondeaux draws the parry. what is difficult for the opponents is that they cant stop it. He can do it in the same spot and its like the opponent mesmerised. and forget that they need to block it. do you know why they call him the jackal?... let Rigondeaux show these youngsters the art of boxing. the art of footwork changing direction to draw the lead..
Rigondeaux power is generated with pinpoint accuracy and timing did you know you can use the momentum generated by the opposition to your benefit. Donaire wouldnt be walking into a punch he be jumping and springing into one.

I think Rigondeux has the best feints in the sport. This is something that Donaire fans (and some are uneducated as boxing fans) don't realize. If you've ever sparred with anyone in your life then you know how bad it is to deal with someone who is good at feinting and who has power. Rigondeux has both these skills.

This is why his opponents tend to completely freeze up, unable to increase their punch output and swarm him, unable to take control of the fight and fight in any style but his. Every fight he has been in since the amateurs winds up being in the Rigondeux pace because Rigondeux has elite skills.

Donaire has skills as well but he's not known for being able to take control of a fight. Donaire generally takes what you give him. Donaire when he gets impatient telegraphs his punches. Rigondeux never telegraphs any of his punches and for the most part you can't see what he's going to do until he does it. This goes back to his amateur performances where he was using those slow motion feints which apparently work well on every fighter he's used it on.

For this reason it's not going to be easy for Donaire to knock Rigondeux out. Rigondeux also has good to great power as evidenced in his amateur fights and although those fights had headgear, he still has power as a pro and no it's not easy to knock out bums unless you're a great fighter and to knock them out the way he has been doing it requires elite level talent. He's been knocking them out with the same punches and hasn't really had to show his full tool set.

This is what is going to catch people by surprise. I've watched some of his amateur fights and Rigondeux has way more tools offensively and defensively than he has shown in the professional fights. He's not using his footwork, he's not using the variety of punches he had in the past, he's not using the full variety of feints either. I've seen him feint jabs, hooks, uppercuts, bodyshots, at varying speeds so the opponent cannot tell if it's a feint or not, and then when the opponent reacts to the false punches in the amateurs he would throw vicious combinations of 4-5 punches. Lately he's been throwing 1-2 shot counters.

Rigondeux is a better fighter than people who never saw him in the amateurs understand. There is only one weakness with him that makes me think Donaire will win this fight and that is his lack of veteran experience. Stuff like not knowing how to handle being hurt, not having his balance and falling down, not knowing how to show off for the cameras and make the fight entertaining. A lot of this stuff can be fixed and he probably will fix it in time for fight night, but if Donaire and him trade combinations I see him going down on one knee or getting knocked down and out.

If Donaire however gets suckered into thinking he can try and out point Rigondeux and get into a feinting contest, and a jabbing contest, and a counter punching contest, not only will Donaire lose but he could end up getting knocked out and that is not a joke. Donaire has to be willing to trade and take punches to land them.

Dont give off to much for the Donaire fans because it wouldnt be much of a shock. The only thing I feel bad for is Rigondeaux who does he fight when he beats Donaire does he move up? :huh
