Why is Riddick Bowe so overrated on here

...And please, let's not neglect to mention that he was also KO'd by a 40 year old golfer with a pair of MEWBs and soccer dad chest hair in a mere 2 rounds. :hey

 

Back in 92 Bowe was the real deal..He beat a prime holyfield in one of the greatest heavyweight fights of the last 25 years..two fights later he came in fat and lost to a determined Holyfield. Close fight, had the fan man not dropped by, he probably could have grinded holy down..He missed fights with Tyson, mostly due to the fact that Tyson was in prison during Bowes short prime. His manager Newman ruined the possibility of a Lewis fight with being to greedy..Bowe was a great fighter, great jab, strong right, strong uppercuts and very very good at infights for such a big man..Plus he didnt fear going to war to win a fight. Bowe is not overrated here, its more a fact of 22 year old guys like the thread starter who only knows Bowe from a Golota highlight movie. The fightfans who remember his fights knows differently...

 

Everything shavers said. I suspect the thread starter hasn't seen Bowe in his prime or possibly not at all.

 

A great fight doesn't make a great boxer. Gatti and Ward had great fights, don't forget that.

He was really good. Let's not forget he beat a juiced up to the rim Holyfield twice.
Problem was he also clearly ducked LL, and fought a couple of total stiffs in defence of his title. Then he got away clean twice against Golota, and because he didn't fight the biggest names out there his accomplishments remain questionable at best.

I think he was very good in his (short) prime, but his reluctance to fight the best out there besides Holy, destroyed his legacy.

Jesus H Christ. Did they let the children out of school early today? Ward and Gatti are not ATG fighters. Evander Holyfield IS - and Bowe beat an ATG heavyweight while he was in his prime in a fight for the ages.

Its a shame he doesnt get discussed on here more often.

His career was so much fun to follow, never a dull moment when Bowe was around.

 

He is overrated because he is a black American that has been retired for some time and fought in the golden era of the 90's, which, back in the 90's, was considered a terrible era.
He beat CW roid freak Evan Fields 2 out of 3 and famously and shamelessly ducked the greatest HW of his generation by throwing his belt in the bin.

 

Atleast Bowe has a win over a prime ATG, and didn't get destroyed by an overweight golfer.
