Isn't going to happen. The UFC nearly went out of business in the early days because of their rule set. John McCain led a campaign to get them banned nationally. Zuffa then watered down the 'no hold bars' rules to make it more palatable. Personally i'm all for the PRIDE rules. But it won't work in the West. The West isn't ready for that level of violence yet. The irony...
the Pride salaries were insane. Not only were they insane they hired like 40 fighters for one show. The organizers of Pride didn't care about profit. It was yakuza backed and it was to see if Osaka could pay more than Tokyo.
Thats complete nonsense. Apart from Fedor, PRIDE fighters compared to the UFC earned peanuts. Granted PRIDE never disclosed the salarys but $100 was the average salary for a GP Champion! Which in the early days was still more money than the UFC prior to Zuffa was offering. Rampage for example earned more money in the UFC despite making a name for himself in PRIDE. As for all this nonsense about the Yakuza influence the last i looked Zuffa is run and is STILL run by a family who has links to the Mob. Mafia Vegas blood money and a Mafia family is what keeps the UFC afloat. I don't hear fans complaining about the Ferrita's being in control.
I met Rampage in Tokyo and he told me how much he made in Pride. It was a lot, more than $300k now. Then again we met in a club and he could be talking complete BS but he said a number that I was surprised by. I didn't care how Pride makes fights and I don't care how the UFC make fights. I'm just glad they get the cash from somewhere.
Yeah iv met Rampage too......... He normally tells complete strangers how much his just been paid for a show.... 20 fights on a show? It would take two days to watch that... Exaggerating much? Yup methinks...
Yeah, knees to grounded opponents would be a good thing....elbows too, I never get the logic in PRIDE rules, no elbows but they allowed knees to grounded opponents ? I´m sure they had an explanation for this, but I think both should be allowed.....
It was to prevent fights ending early on cuts...Thats why the GnP was so vicious. PRIDE was all about the effort to finish a fight which was rewarded more than the wall and stall, lay and pray tactics of the UFC.
Hm, good thing then. Well, I´ve said before that I think elbows are allowed in the UFC to favor the wrestlers (generally americans), they can change a fight in 1 second with an elbow in the Gnp causing a cut. Even so, I think it would help to make some action in ground more fun to watch in PRIDE, I can recall a few ones that could be finished earlier if elbows were allowed, Kerr vs Duarte for instance, if Kerr was able to use elbows he would stop Duarte, I believe....
I'm glad they weren't allowed. I don't like seeing fights end on cuts. Plus can you imagine the kind of havoc Fedor, Prime Kerr, Coleman or Vovchancyn would have wreaked if elbows were allowed? Someone would have their skull split in two. :blood
Yup..... Imagine KErr using elbows.... [yt]OQhF45i05hk[/yt] (I think elbows were allowed in the WVC though, in the IVC it certainly was, he was pretty good with the knees btw)
I remember watching that. Was the most brutal **** at time i had ever seen. I honestly thought Pauls head had been cracked open. You should see his fight vs Igor. Igor had some of the biggest balls in MMA.
Regardless of other factors Prides rule set was better without a doubt. It promoted finishing fights and was against buttwrestling.
