when have you been the most wrong about a fighter?

i thought david reid was going to dominate for years and i thought he was going to beat trinidad. i was only right through three rounds of that fight.

 

I picked Rees to KO Broner

 

Probably when Hopkins beat Tarver and then Pavlik.

 

Thought Micheal Watson would trouble Mike McCallum for sure, and thought a win for Watson was a pretty good possibility.

Expected Bute to be able to outbox Froch, too...:-(

 

I expected Dawson to still be the unbeaten lightheavy champ with a long, uninterupted run.

I thought Abraham was one of the better choices to bet on to win the Super 6 tournament.

Was never impressed with Froch and figured he'd be easily outboxed by Jermain Taylor. In my defense, Taylor was doing very well until he gassed and got rocked.

 

I was SO, so high on Gamboa, Juanma Lopez and ****ing Bute :-(

Still riding with them, but yeah not really the next generation of hall of famers.

 

I can't remember the most wrong but a recent one was when I predicted a brutal KO, in round 6 last December. I was accurate except for the one important fact that I predicted a Pac victory.

 

Lennox Lewis Vs Mike Tyson..I had Iron picked high, and lost alot of money that night....But nothing against Lennox, I love the guy and he put a beating On Mike..Period

 

Heaps and heaps of bad calls.

A recent one would be my initial opinion about Froch and how far he would go.

 

I'm wrong all the time with picks, usually about top 15 in kirks league but every year I get tens of picks wrong.

However the most wrong I've ever been is with Devon. When he sparked urango I was so high on him, tipped him to be the next p4p star (like were ward is now) but then he got schooled down the stretch against kot and was bullied by both matthyse and Bradley. Couldn't believe how one dimensional and easy to tag he looked.

I dont mind admitting when I'm wrong though, I follow boxing for pleasure not business, I'm allowed to be miles off

back in 2006 there was a british fighter who looked pretty good but rough called martin power. he was in a commonwealth title fight against some relatively unknown south african called tshifhiwa "the Atomic Spider" munyai. a 5'10 bantamweight with super long arms and the frailest frame i have seen. and as his nickname suggests. think margarito/paul williams workrate and hieght coupled with actually very good reach and snap on his punches.

martin power just walked into the upercuts all night. and got torn up pretty badly by the end of it. it got stopped much to his chagrin.

another british fighter named lee haskins who thought he saw weaknesses in munyais ungainly approach stepped up in weight to win the commonwealth title. haskins got battered from pillar to post as munyai just closed the ring into nothing and just kept landing punches. 120 punches thrown by munyai in the first round which derailed haskins chances of slowing the fight down and ouboxing his man.

then a rematch with power where power was just stuck in the corner trying to slip and duck punches but just ended up getting caught more and more. another victory for munyai. within 4.

i was sold. he foguth decent fighter harry romogoadi. and was the commonwealth chapion and over 2 minor world ranked fighters. he was in the top 10. an article in the sun stated "The best fighter fighting in Britain is not British" with a picture of munyai.

then moves to feather and wins over a olympic amatuer and swedish prospect tebazelwa.


for 2 years he looked so dominant with his frilly trunks super rangey body and mini dreads.

went to 126 to fight a decent ghanian fighter akaba who had been campaigning in the uk for a while.and.....munyai was completely outboxed and exposed

Carl Froch like many others.
After getting badly rocked against Limond I thought Khan wouldn't get anywhere near world class. I know he's had some embarrasing defeats but in my mind he's already over achieved with that chin of his.
Alexander Alexeev. Russian cruiser looked awesome a few years back.
Thought Hozumi Hasegawa was a potential p4p guy but ko losses to Montiel and Jhonny Gonzalez put paid to that.
And whatever happened to Matty Korobov?

 

Probably was the most wrong about Howard Davis Jr.But after watching his fight with Edwin Rosario, I had to admit, that maybe, things weren't going to pan out.
