does george groves have a weak chin?

It's not glass, average though.

 

Its suspect but he seems to recover quickly and he knows what to do if he has been hurt. Grab hold or get on your bike. Some fighters i.e khan seem to want to go to war after theyve been hurt which is the wrong way of doing things.

 

Well obviously Kenny dropped him so that's where it comes from. It's common knowledge that Froch made take a knee in sparring.

TBH though neither suggest he has a weak chin to me, he got caught with his chin in the air against Anderson and was essentially a kid up against a world champion in Froch.

Oh and Glen Johnson can punch but they put him in with him. Easier, lighter punchers than Johnson!

 

Paul Smith landed his best right hand bang on the button but didn't wobble George, I'd say he's got a good chin.

 

Not particularly IMO but I think his style, and especially the defence he tries to use, may leave him vulnerable in the future to being knocked out. It's a very jerky, reactive defence mainly based on head movement but I think he's been shown to be vulnerable when opponents throw in flurries. He may slip the first and second shots but his chin is left in the air for follow up shots and it's something that if repeated at World level, will put him in a lot of trouble.

But saying that, I think he's improving and refining that style all the time. He looked a bit all over the place against Anderson but was far more secure against Degale and looked to be so against Johnson last time out as well. He seems to be avoiding putting himself in dangerous situations by resting on the ropes more and more and is making sure that his good offensive skills are not all he relies on.

I still thing he's a bit of a raw prospect but there's some clear signs of progress there and hopefully he can now have a few more meaningful tests now to iron out his flaws. He's not quite ready for World level yet IMO but I don't think it's his chin which is keeping him from being so, just a few technical issues that I'm sure he will correct. I like Groves and am sure he'll be a World champion at some point, although I'm a bit disappointed the N'diaye fight isn't happening because I think it could've been a worthwhile outing.

 

I think he'll have more problems with his Billy Schwer-like skin rather than his chin.

He got dropped against Kenny Anderson. Other than that I dont think he has a bad chin.

 

Yes Travis did I asked him about it. I think he dropped him once then he got back up and then he dropped him again and he was all over the place so the ref waved it off. Travis beat him on points as well.

I am not going to say Groves has a bad chin but if he fights world class opposition for a long time I definety see him getting stopped a few times. I think if he fought Froch or Kessler now he would get KO'd plus his power wouldn't be a huge factor. In the fights I've seen him in he was hurt against Smith, DeGale and Anderson.

I don't quite know what it is. But something just aint right about George Groves. Whether its poor punch resistance, hesitation or straight up panicking, I don't know. Groves appears to me to wobble a lot when on the end of punches, punches that may not even be that good. Its weird to see, I don't know whether he is scared, or nervous which adds to the power of the punch in his head. What I do think though is that, George is mentally weak, and relies on Adam Booth an awful lot. George Groves is open and occasionally lazy and shows little defence when transitioning from back foot to front foot. Whilst George appears to be talented and throws a lot of hard punches, I can definitely see him getting stopped soon, and more than a few times to.
