lol I'll love to see this video. I doubt he's a good sparring partner for Canelo as he's preparing for a southpaw
Oscar is a southpaw, who fought in a orthodox stance. So I'm sure he could fight out of the southpaw stance as well. :hey
No he isn't. He's a left-handed person, who fought in an orthodox stance. The whole "converted southpaw" thing is a misnomer, for the most part. If someone is more effective boxing southpaw, their coaches will instruct them how to box southpaw and encourage them to do so in competition. Your dominant hand in one area of life isn't necessarily always congruous with other areas. That is, for some people the hand you use for writing (by which most people identify their handedness) isn't the same as the dominant hands for sports - and likewise it might vary from one sport to another. I am a left-handed person. My left has greater precision and control over fine movements. I couldn't print legibly with my right with a gun to my head. However, when playing Little League - although listed as a switch-hitter and ambidextrous thrower and sometimes changing it up - I was far more comfortable & effective batting & tossing the baseball with my right. I box orthodox. I'm as uncomfortable and discombobulated trying to jab/hook with my right as trying to hurl a pitch with my left (or swing a bat with my left hand on top and left foot in the rear). Oscar wouldn't have boxed orthodox from childhood through the Olympics and his pro career if he would've been more effective & comfortable the other way around. He might write left handed, but that doesn't make him a natural southpaw boxer.
I stand corrected. I had just heard his early trainer say that he was a decent southpaw fighter with a powerful left hook, but was better fighting out the orthodox stance. What you say makes a lot of sense. Thanks for clarifying that. :good
I've heard that as well. Maybe very early on, when he was a small child, he started that way (on the assumption that "well, if that's which one I use for writing...may as well... :conf") but for 99% of his time in the ring he fought orthodox, meaning it was the stance most comfortable & effective for him, which makes him an orthodox boxer. (despite being a left-handed person in other walks of life). :nod
I read Oscar's book. He was put into the southpaw stance by default from early on and became used to it.
I'm sure Oscar being a sparring partner will really help Saul prepare for Trout. I think Juanma should go get Tito to help him prepare for Mikey Garcia.
Meh,its only sparring. Maybe Oscar is still in shape. Also, Im pretty sure it wont just be Oscar he'll be sparring! lol
some sparring partners guys use are outright awful. I mean Wlad Klitschko uses that guy Towers for sparring. Fury spars MMA fighters. Froch often spars amateurs. its only sparring
