Does Nonito Donaire Have More Skills Than Pacman?

Actually, his fans arent all that bad to be honest, at least not in ******* level yet.

Nonito(e) himself tho, although he is an excellent fighter, has been quite the annoying character these last couple of months.

 

Yeah, let's just judge all fighter's skill level by using the eyeball test. Let's arbitrarily look at the way fighters move, throw punches, take punches, defend, and assume that they will fight just like at all levels of competition, at the very peak of the sport's pyramid, without looking at who they're fighting. In fact we might as well just watch footage of them shadowboxing or white out the footage of the opponent.

In fact I think I would beat Rios based on how I look shadowboxing in the mirror. Despite that I haven't had any pro fights. But using the eyeball test, I clearly have better form and know how to slip punches. Rios has no jab. I have a great jab. Pow pow.

Donaire is from Mindanao, Southern Philippines. Manila is up North and hasn't produced any great boxerers.

The weights make that unlikely not the skill level. If Hatton, Cotto or Margarito dropped down to 126 or so they'd get knocked the hell out. Hatton has no head movement or defense. Cotto is easy to hit as well and comes straight forward. Margarito has no head movement and comes straight forward.

PACQUIAO comes straight foward and has limited head movement and while I admit Pacquiao has speed, power, explosiveness, excellent footwork, and attacks from all different angles, he can't fight backing up, he doesn't move his head, he gets sloppy toward the later rounds, he has low ring IQ, and he has no plan B.

 

ITT: People who can't understand the subtle skills involved in boxing. Not everything has to be a blatant by the book picture perfect move to be "skill".

Been a fan of boxing for 20 years, a huge fan closely following it for over a decade, I've boxed for over a decade and coached for many years. I myself relies on speed and power, yet I get outboxed by guys in the gym who doesn't have close the speed or power. It's simple, at the elite level, it takes much more than speed and power.

Take RJJ for example, you really think he didn't have skills? Yes he relied on his athleticism but he mastered a skillset that catered to that athleticism, so when he lost his athleticism it looks like he lost his skills but truth is, he didnt, his skills are still there just catered for the athleticism and reflexes he had lost. Chavez for example was very skilled, but his skills were catered towards the fact that he had an iron chin, had he lost his chin, he may not have looked so skillful in there.

Pacquiao works around his speed and power, I think he lost a lot of his luster when he started having cramp problems but he was still elite. Can honestly say I have never seen a fighter like Pac who has the full offensive arsenal, a combination of speed, power, lateral movement, head movement, feints, combinations and aggression. His offensive skills for me to watch is as masterful as JMM's counters or Floyd's defense to "sweet science" lovers.

Donaire has looked averaged against guys like Narvaez and Vasquez, in terms of skill nothing spectacular and he only got them with power. Pacquiao looked more impressive against guys like Clottey, difference is Donaire has size advantage over those guys, Clottey had 15lbs on Pac.

No one is saying Pacquiao doesn't have skill. He's one dimensional though. Hatton has skill but Hatton couldn't move his head and use angles. Pacquiao doesn't move his head enough, doesn't fight backing up, he's good but against a truly technical boxer he gets knocked out.

Marquez simply knocked him out with his own aggression. Rigondeux is even better at that than Marquez which is why I predict Rigondeux would have knocked a young Pacquiao out. Old Pacquiao with a much more complete game still gets knocked out by that kind of tactic. Tactical and technical fighters like Donaire and Rigondeux can beat you with just one punch all night, or by using the same counter all night, this is something Pacquiao has a problem with.

Pacquiao does not adapt and does not bring a plan B. That is why he loses to these sorts of fighters. Mayweather would adapt and beat them all. Pacquiao and Hatton don't adapt or if they do it's for a few rounds then they get sloppy and fall back into bad habits. Against Donaire it's getting knocked out and against Rigondeux it's getting knocked out or outpointed.

Pacquiao just isn't going to be able to walk Donaire down because Donaire is as fast and as powerful as he was. Pacquiao may be able to back up Rigondeux but so what? That is exactly how Rigondeux likes to fight which would mean Pacquiao would find himself in a technical boxing match which he'd either get outpointed or he'd go for the KO by head hunting and get countered and pot shotted to KO.

Pac fought drained, catchweight and past it opponents while nonito fights fighters on their prime, will pac ever fight someone like rigo before? NO

Thats similar to him ducking guzman at 122 and 130, but nonito fights them all.

back to thread, nonito is more skilled, pac might have better comp but nonito isn't far off. Again pac fought guys not at their best(drained,past it) so it gives false illusion to *******s, marquez fans knows this already I suspect but they go along because its his greatest achievement:rofl you know full well nonito is far more skilled and miles ahead of pac, his competition is underrated as well

Lastly factor in peds, nonito submitted himself to voluntary strict drug testing without anyone asking so he is clean as a whistle, pac on the other hand was already ktfo by needles when ask by floyd

 

I think Donaire is the correct answer.
