Basically, this one came up thinking about how it's one of Roy's best wins, he was thoroughly dominant, winning a major world title in a second weight class, and over a p4p highly regarded and undefeated fighter. However, there were big issues with the weight/conditioning of the fighter in question, to no fault of the victor but adding much to consider for the win's value. I don't think Toney's style was ever going to go well with Roy's shocking speed and footwork. I think he'd have been lost regardless.

But, there was some talk recently about Toney on Classic and was he a great fighter, will he be remembered well, how good was he really, etc. Since he's one of Roy's best guys, on a scale of one to ten, what was this victory worth? I'd place it at about eight, all things considered, regard for opponent, performance itself, state of the opponent, all knocks and pluses, eight, maybe even nine. Change my mind if you feel strongly otherwise. The way I think of it Toney was a great fighter and even with the serious conditioning difficulty, I'd have to rate it at an 8-9 as far as what it was for that manner of victory to take place and what it said about RJJ's level at the time-which was absolutely through the roof, I'd say.

8(.5), i previously said it was good rather than great, due to toneys conditioning, which may be true, but he outclassed toney from the first bell

:nod I think the method of victory on this one matters as much as anything. And I support your half point system.

It was so thorough and complete that I can't see it ever going another way, any excuses Toney may have legitimate or not, don't really take away from the dominance by Jones.

Jones even outfought him on the inside sometimes.

    I score it a 9.

Only way it could be higher is if Toney would have kept focus and done good stuff during the next 7 years and hence be remembered as an even greater fighter.

Toney was weight drained, badly, but he was also regarded by many as the best fighter on the planet by many and was 44-0-2 going in. Jones was the visitor, Toney was the big dog in the super-middleweight division.

A nine is as high a score as I would give for a fight between two fighters who are the same size, which they were, and Toney's being in better condition would have rendered it a better victory, so for me it's an eight.

I gave Roy a perfect 10. He utterly bewildered Toney and impressed the hell out of me in doing so.

Not sure if I agree withthis statement as it gives an unfair disadvantage to natural HW's but an 8 seem fair.

    9. Only thing that would make this rank higher is if Roy stopped Toney or Toney wasn't weight drained. Still, I rate this very very very very highly.

McLarnin KO1 Young Corbett III would be a 10. Kalambay UD12 McCallum would be a 9.

    9. Toney would have always lost to Jones and would've always had an excuse.

pretty much. and i know toney was sluggish but it's not like he was the zombie he is now. the man threw punches, shoulder rolled, did all his usual stuff. jones humiliated him. he showed that toney's style was thoroughly beatable and took 12 rounds off (arguably) the number 1 p4p fighter at the time

i cannot think of any other time in history that occured
