"I'm transforming the business, again not for the first time. I’m giving everyone the chance for boxing to control its own TV output….at a time when even Sky are drifting ever further away from boxing. ‘Yes, it’s expensive to run our own channel but it gives us our independence." Independence has its benefits and in the right hands could lead to mroe fights being made. Conversely, the promoter also being the broadcaster means that it is far easier for the promoter to do things like sell a fight which hasn't been properly sanctioned and then pull it at the last minute. If Wa**en was still with Sky he would be answerable to them over this Vazquez shite and warned that it shouldn't be happening again if he wants remain there. "I’m no longer solely dependent on my own boxers and shows. I beam in world class fights from the US, Europe, all over the world." Pouring money into overseas rights whilst neglecting to pay fighters on time and holding money back in an attempt to blackmail them into signing contracts doesn't sound like a great business model. Although while Frank and Jeff enjoy 'some of the finest food in London’s club-land' they don't seem overly worried that Burns was having to put a shift in at weekends to make ends meet. Alls well there it seems.
The LAST time I will but tickets to a ****** promotion. The guy is finished in British and World boxing, the "Rule Britannia" balls up proves that...
It does kind of seem like quite a change in business model if you move from relying on ticket sales and rights fee, to owning a TV channel and relying much more on subscriptions and TV advertising.
