It's not a unification bout. Trout is not the WBA champ. His title is less legit than Guerrero's interim title.

He isn't getting it for free. He's providing an entertainment service, and I'm able to make a night out of it and have a good time with people so it's worth it. If you don't like his brand of boxing, are strapped for money or going off your own principals, don't buy it. Doesn't matter to me, man.

I've always found it strange that people just immediately assume a fight can be made and all the pieces fall into place magically because one fighter says, "I want _______." Just because two fighters were/are active at the same time in one weight class means absolutely nothing. You have to take into account that each of them has their own career that isnt necessarily scheduled around what one particular potential opponent is doing. Contractual obligations, promoters, venues, injuries, vacations, and any number of factors can prevent a fight from coming together at the most opportune time. Once that window closes its not in anyones best interest to wait or lose out on the next best option. Floyd was just as unable to demand whatever fight he wanted before he started headlining PPV events as every other fighter. He only defended the super featherweight and lightweight titles that he gained from beating absolute killers twice each before moving up in weight. Ironically though this qualifies him as being a ***** who ducks opponents to some people.

He had repeatedly tried to fight Kostya Tszyu, but Tszyu was guaranteed a considerable payday to defend his title against a much less threatening Ricky Hatton (who had been selling out the M.E.N. arena regularly) in Manchester (in hindsight a huge mistake because the British ref allowed Hatton to fight as dirty as he possibly could short of uppercutting Kostya directly in the groin, oh wait - he did do exactly that). Therefore the next best option was to go after the WBC belt held by Gatti, who could draw the kind of numbers necessary for HBO to allow Floyd to make his PPV debut. Hatton promptly took the much more courageous route of fighting Carlos Maussa (!) to pick up another belt. While that happened Floyd opted to take a tune up against the southpaw Sharmba Mitchell (himself a former 2 time champion) in anticipation of challenging the southpaw linear welterweight title in Zab Judah. A fight that Don King and Bob Arum had been planning on making immediately after he beat Gatti. Before Zab got upset by Baldomir they had already sold $3 million in tickets within days of going on sale. At that point there was no possibility of canceling the event. Following that the only logical step was to get get the WBC belt/linear championship from Baldomir so the fight with Oscar (aka the golden ticket) could be legitimately billed as the welterweight champion against the light middleweight champion. Fighting Hatton after that was the best option since Cotto was defending his titles in Madison Square Garden. How anyone can call fighting the pound for pound Marquez coming off a semi-retirement then Mosley a cowardly or ***** move is beyond me. Remember when everyone seemed to be convinced that Floyd was "scared" of Margarito? Yet they gave him little credit after making a fool of Mosley, who literally just beat the **** out of Margarito (who was probably only ever successful because of cheating). Coincidentally, once that apparent boogeyman was gone Manny Pacquiao proceeds to literally fight the exact same people AFTER yet is hyped as this superhuman killer, but Floyd supposedly cherry picked them thus deserves no credit.

It's being considered a unification bout from everything I read .Unless you can provide anything that states otherwise this is to unify 2/3rds of the title ..

Has Pac been fighting tougher comp over the same time frame you are reffering to? I'm asking because you seem to be saying Floyd hasn't really fought anyone.

I'm definitely not satisfied with Guerrero, but at least he beat Berto. Who has Alvarez beaten?, nobody worth mentioning. He would be as unproven as Guerrero if not worse. I'd like to see this fight with Alvarez finally wins a meaningful fight.

Again though if he gets by Trout would he not be probably the most deserving challenger that Floyd has faced in quite a while?

And Berto has been proven to be rather limited for a while now.... it might have sold Ortiz but cmon...you can't use him as a gatekeeper to a Floyd fight.

2/3rds of the titles huh? Ok, so that would mean there are 3 titles and 2 of them are being unified. Well that's just wrong right there as there are 4 sanctioning bodies. So let's correct that and say half.
WBO champ = Zauerbek Baysangurov IBF Champ = Ishe Smith WBC Champ = Saul Alvarez WBA Champ = Floyd Mayweather Jr. So that's all 4 major sanction bodies right there. You tell me which two are fighting on April 20th? If you're going to tell me that Trout's WBA regular title counts, then so does Guerrero's WBC interim title; which would mean the May 4th bout is a unification bout.

Let's stop with this nonsense The WBA regular title was originally a money making scam brought about under the guise of allowing unified champs more time to defend their title. That's right, according to the WBA rules, there is only a regular champ when there is a Super Champ, there is only a Super Champ when the WBA champ unifies. Cotto won the WBA belt, never unified, and was elevated to Super Champ anyway. Trout was then handed a regular title so the WBA could double up on fees. Trout's title is completely bogus.

I'm just asking a question. I brought up pac to see who you think has actually been going through the guantlet since floyd's opposition has been lacking.

Explain what you mean by "a while"...starting when has his opposition been subpar?
