Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez

This would be a very intriguing fight. If Mayweather fught like he did vs Mosley I'd fancy him because I'm not sure whether he'd get a decision fighting on the back foot just trying to pick him off. Martinez though is prone to switching off for a few rounds which would be a big problem who would likely step it up later on. I'd choose Mayweather but not by much

I think he sacrifices his power for speed sometimes, plus his balance is terrible, so he doesn't often get the right leverage or turn his punches over correctly.

But his body punching is pretty nasty and debilitating, plus that right hook is a fantastic weapon. He basically knocked Cintron out - and the punch was so hard Cintron thought it was a headbutt.

 

I hope he copys Manny and asks for a catchweight if he takes this fight.

I really rate Martinez; I agree that when he plants his feet and bombs (spec' with the right hook) he is a snappy and hurtful puncher.

Not required against Floyd, he should make Floyd come to him, pepper him and move, keep the jab consistent and try and set up his body assault. Keep disciplined and aim to win on points IMO.

 

The first time I actually saw someone have to knock the other guy out to get a draw.

I think Maravilla wins a close decision as long as he paces himself.

 

I think stylistically, it's a good match-up for Floyd, particularly if Martinez is throwing single power shots.

 

Mayweather by decision in a very interesting fight for the purists. If this fight really was signed the build-up would be huge and, better still, it would mean a shot at the lineal title for PBF should the fight take place at 160:yep. I'd love to see it happen. How could anyone complain about PBF's recent run of oppo if his most recent fights were against Mosley and Martinez?:bbb

 

You're right no one could really complain. The fact he would jump up 2 divisions plus the stylistic clashes makes it as hard as a pacquiao fight in my opinion. The chance to be the middleweight champion of the world would also surely appeal to Floyd, as it is probably the 2nd most prestigious weight class in boxing. Plus it would be great for martinez to get a true superfight, exactly what he deserves

Mayweather doesn't need Pacquiao, look at the way he handled Marquez in comparison to Pacman. This is the biggest fight out there and Floyd takes it on points. Alvarez would beat Martinez also.
